Fanatic Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Hey guys/girls. As some of you know, I recently bought a '81 Te72 wagon. I have fixed a few wiring problems, replaced a few parts, and to no avail. I thought I had a wiring problem when my hazard signal wouldn't work, but someone removed the fuse and never replaced it. Here is the problem I'm having: First off is the horn. I got a extra with the car. I removed the horn from the car, and hooked it straight to a battery. It didn't work. The extra I got with the car did almost make me def when I hooked it to a battery. I bolted it back to the car, hooked it up, and it didn't work. I removed the steering wheel, cleaned every horn contact, and still no working. What else would I need to check? Second: I have no reverse lights. I got under the car today, and noticed the wires running t the reverse light switch weren't hooked up. Tracked them down, one had a missing end. I replaced the end, hooked it back up, and they still don't work. I tried switching the wires, that didn't make them work either. I also swapped in a new reverse light switch, and that did no good either. What could be the culprit? One more thing: Is their maybe a online repair manual for these cars? I know the Supras have a online repair manual, but I can't find anything for these cars. I would love a online manual, scans, etc. I've had no luck looking so far. Thanks! Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Checked all your fuses? Get a voltmeter or make one up ( a 12v bulb and a few wires) to make sure everything is getting power. Quote
Evan G Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 no reverse - is it auto or manual? try bridging the 2 wires going to the gearbox. reverse lights should come on Quote
Fanatic Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 It's a 5 speed. I'll try bridging them and see if that makes them come on. Quote
Evan G Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 It's a 5 speed. I'll try bridging them and see if that makes them come on. just use a very thin wire or make a bridge wire with a 5amp fuse just incase theres a short curcit Quote
Fanatic Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 Made a bridge and they lit up. Remove the reverse light switch, hooked the wires up, and pressed it. They worked like new. Put it back in the transmission, and I have no reverse lights. I switched the wires, and still not a thing.. Maybe something is wrong with the transmission? Quote
Evan G Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) remove the reverse sensor, then look (or even stick you little finger in there)v in the gearbox and see if theres like a lip on the reverse shaft. if this has worn down there wont be enough pressure to push the pin in on the reverse sensor therefor not causing them to work. it could also be the reverse sensor has worn down and therefore not pushing in the pin enough on the sensor. my 2cents Edited July 15, 2010 by Evan G Quote
Fanatic Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 Alright, I will check that out here in a little while. Quote
anbu2020 Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 It sounds like electrical wiring problem and those are hard to diagnose over the internet but I probably can help you with one problem which in turn may dry out and help your other problems. If you run your finger along the bottom jamb, or if you are good looking up at the bottom jamb with a mirror you will find, usually oblong but shape doesn't matter. There are hole, maybe two maybe three per door. Poke in those holes with a nail or something to clear the debris that is blocking it from draining. You can take the panel off and really clean it but I like the lazy man's way of remembering to unplug the holes after every rain. ______________________ Income Protection Insurance| Life Insurance Quotes Quote
