Dan Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 (edited) Righto, i plan to keep everyone updated on the build of the beast. Will post pics soon... Plan The KE55 coupe will be stripped out speedway style (just a ignition circuit remaining), will run 3k with 5 spd (4th and 5th grs removed). Painted flat black. Rollcage, relocated battery and radiator (into 'cockpit'). *more pics added of new car* Edited October 25, 2005 by sidewayz1 Quote
lappy Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 i had to build my car from scratch it took about 9 months from when i got it to when i raced it Quote
Dan Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 damn... thats a long time! I've already got a rollcage but... did you do all the work yourself or with your old man or something - thats what I'm planning to do... how come it took so loooong? Quote
Dan Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 lappy do you know what ratios the standard diffs are in the different rollas? Quote
lappy Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 i built the rollcage with my old man and we just took our time Quote
Dan Posted September 5, 2005 Author Report Posted September 5, 2005 Yes. That was a jerry can acting as a fuel tank... Quote
Dan Posted September 5, 2005 Author Report Posted September 5, 2005 Because there is nothing electrical/mechanical inside the car behind the dash... Quote
snyper Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 dan how long till the cage goes in. turban asked 4 ya numba the other day so i would be weary of your surrondings u know his history. :P :jamie:  Quote
Dan Posted September 11, 2005 Author Report Posted September 11, 2005 (edited) Well, this is the KE20 ex-racer that my old man picked up for me. Its pretty buggered, but its got the cage, seat, harness, fuel tank, locked 4:3 and the millions of other little bits and pieces that save me a shitload of dough. The car hadn't been raced since 2000, and has been sitting out in the weather since then, but luckily the seat and harness hadn't been damaged... Heres a pic of when we got it... Dan Posted October 25, 2005 Author Report Posted October 25, 2005 And another; note the big ram up its arse... the driver of this car didn't really mind contact!!! Quote
Dan Posted October 25, 2005 Author Report Posted October 25, 2005 Then we took everything out and cut the roof off with an angle grinder (gotta be careful with them sharp edges, got cut up by one)... Thought I'd add a pic of what she looks like... Almost like a beach buggy/ute! Quote
Dan Posted October 25, 2005 Author Report Posted October 25, 2005 Nice... Note the pipes that lead from where the radiator is supposed to go (mounted on cage behind where the passengers seat would be) and the spear-plate above my head (in case of rollover where something pierces the roof)... Its a real beast eh. The cage will be painted red unless someone can convince me to paint it different... Quote
lappy Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 the shell is a bit beat up but is the roll cage intact Quote
Dan Posted November 3, 2005 Author Report Posted November 3, 2005 Yeah, the rollcage is in overrated condition, apart from the surface rust, but i'll assure you that its only surface rust. The welds are all still intact. I'm gunna spend a bit of time on it with a wire brush and sandpaper, i'll have it looking good (for a speedway cage). Its 42mm, but its not like i'm going to be #1 racer versing a whole lot of blokes that have been racing for years... i'm only doing it for fun (and racing :D). But yeah.... add me on msn if you've got it... [email protected] Quote
