son of stig Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) Just wondering who on here has gone through the rigmoral of engineering / inspections to gain legal rego in SA for a 4AGE into a KE. Ive already got a Statement Of Requirements from Vehicle Standards. My question regards the engineering process, as i need: - Vehicle Emissions Test Report (this is simple, exhaust gas analyser test at any reputable mechanic) - Engineers Report, including: -Lane Change Test Procedures -Brake System Test Procedures -Assessment of Torsional Rigidity I'm fairly confident my project will pass all of the above, but ive called around a few engineers and none of them will give me even a ball park figure of price.. I realise it is a difficult thing to quote without knowing all the facts but has anyone had experience in this area they are willing to share?? Cheers! Edited November 12, 2010 by son of stig Quote

son of stig Posted August 12, 2010 Author Report Posted August 12, 2010 Anyone? I should also add that i think the lane change/ braking tests are due to also upgrading to corona suspension and brakes. So one consideration is to go back to standard KE55 struts and brakes, but ill have to chat to Vehicle Standards about this to see if it will make required testing lest extensive. Quote
son of stig Posted August 12, 2010 Author Report Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) Ive also got to find some 4AGE emissions gear, has anyone ripped theirs off and want to part with it? Edited August 12, 2010 by son of stig Quote
philbey Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 - Engineers Report, including: -Lane Change Test Procedures -Brake System Test Procedures -Assessment of Torsional Rigidity I'm fairly confident my project will pass all of the above, but ive called around a few engineers and none of them will give me even a ball park figure of price.. I realise it is a difficult thing to quote without knowing all the facts but has anyone had experience in this area they are willing to share?? I can't help you with price, but the brake system test I've seen is pretty straightforward. They use a G meter and a pressure pad on the pedal and perform a number of hard stops from speed, for say 10x stops. The pressure applied the pedal and the g-forces must be within a tolerance band for the 10x stops, be careful of Metal compound pads as the brakes must be cold to start with and they'll change as they heat up. Torsional rigidity tests usually involve a jig to apply a load on a corner and see how much it distorts the chassis. The engineer will need to advise whether those values match the engine fitted to the vehicle. Not sure about the lane change test. You should have no trouble getting a price for the actual tests. If you are asking him to "engineer" your car that's different, because he then needs to take the test results, spend an unknown amount of time checking and calculating and possibly designing the changes he needs you to make to meet the requirements, and then probably re-testing.
