dimsim Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Hey all, I couldn't find any threads on it so here goes. Does anyone know anyone in Perth that can do a complete overhaul on a 4k in my ke55. Was thinking about buying some webers for it but the whole engine is pretty shot along with trans and diff. So I was thinking about also getting the manual transmission rebuilt. Which leaves me at the diff, what can I do about this without modding the tailshaft, can other LSD diffs be put in at all? Thanks. Andrew Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Any motor engineer can do the motor, grind valves & seats, skim head, cut crank if needed, rebore or hone, lighten flywheel and make sure everything is really clean... All the rest is just assembly, which you can do youself- new bearings, rings, timing chain setup.. Get the cam cut, a set of extractors & maybe a better carb and its a new car! The gearbox... you can do some of it with the help on here, but it would be expensive to get a shop to do a complete overhaul. The diff.... forget it. The LSD style comes from the AE86 and they are all well taken by the AE86DC guys. The option is a two-ton unit from a ute or maybe a van. Sad side of a K series... Quote
snot35 Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 I think a TA22 Celica diff may be the right width? Then you have access to LSD's. You'll still need to weld spring mounts on though, and maybe get a custom tail shaft? Quote
dimsim Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) Even buying a new trans to fit in the original trans place. I'm trying to think of what would be an easier cheaper option, fix up the original stuff or get rid of it all and put in a new engine/trans/diff combo, maybe nissan CA or SR motor. Money isn't a problem as I have a bit saved up now and I don't need it done instantly. Edited August 30, 2010 by dimsim Quote
