the wire wheels for an angle grinder work great. i need another, as i have worn out my last one, lasted ages.

 

best thing for removing bog. make sure you use a dust mask and eye protection.

hmmm might have to give one a go then. Need to buy some stands and stuff today anyway.

anyone know the correct way in grounding the car and what to connect the welding clamp to?

If you don't know what to connect the welding clamp to, you probably shouldn't be welding.

 

No need to ground the car, but make sure you disconnect the battery.

hehe thats why i got a mate coming over.. but wanted to ask anyway cus rollas might be different.. better safe than sorry..

 

i got some metal today.. 3 square tubes, 2 which a kinda the same size, as in wall thickness, and one piece which is pretty fat, thick etc..

 

shuld i try and hide the fact that its been fixed? or leave it, but make it look descent, so it can pass rego better?

Umm. Yeah. That's a rather silly question, don't you think? You'd try to make it look as good as you can get it. If you managed to make it look completely normal then you can do whatever you want with it. If you can't, and it looks a bit dodgy, then you'd paint it matt black and hope no one else notices...

well the neater it looks the better. if it is bodgy, the roadworthy guys will be less inclined to want to pass your car as easily, and look at it more harshly. if everything is neat and tidy and as it should be you have more of a chance of breezing through.

On the topic of cleaning up welds, do you guys reckon this is true or not - "once you die grind the weld clean, reweld it to add more strength..." I'm a bit iffy. And another one said to weld both sides? Thoughts anyone?

hmmm well technically, when u weld it melts both sides of the metal, so if u went back over it then it would just build on top of it.. but i really don't know, i did woowork at school hehe

 

BTW: on topic, I'm killing the rust 2moz.. wil post pics..

Troy: Umm... Well, on a *good* weld it's supposed to go all the way through, so welding both sides shouldn't make it any "better". As far as grinding a weld down and then rewelding it, I can't see how this would add any strength if the original weld was already a good weld.

I'm dissappointed cus we have rain here in sydney. apparently its going to rain for the next few days, so i can't get outside to grind and weld. i don't exactly want to be welding around water anway.

 

we will wait maybe a bit later, rain might clear up a tad.
