this is my ke70, havnt done much too it. jus sprayed the stockies n put crome rings around them. sprayed centre console black gotta redo it paints dodgey. took the toyota badge off the grill n resprayed it gloss black. spray rear bumper gloss black too as it was fading.

If the bumpers begin peeling don't paint them, you need a proper plastics paint called bumpercoat. It was recommended to me from another member and its very effective. I'm guessing you may have used export gloss black :hmm: with no prepping before hand. Either way it will peel/flake off and when it does clean it again and spray it with bumpercoat. :y: If you can, take a pic of the diff so I can whether its an Aussie borgy or a jap diff.

 

For some unbeknown reason some flat front ke70's in SE spec like yours and mine mysteriously came out with jap diffs, and in my case it has a t series thats compatible to having an lsd centre... I have seen two other original ke70 in SE trim getting around with a t series.

 

How did you come across this car, did you door knock or just find it by fluke? And when do you get you're P's :wink:

Here is my 70' and the front and rear bumper have "forever black". Its a black dye you apply with a sponge tipped bottle but the surface mut be clean as before you even put this on. Its tedious to do and bumpercoat should be muck easier to use. But the finish is mostly the same. Just to give you an idea :yes:

No worries at all, I noticed yours is an SE so I thought i'd ask. Yeah the little ke is nice :blush: you'll love it in the flesh maybe next meet or I might come down your way to say hi and give it a run.

Wow! if that's true then its worth checking the wreckers, there may be a lot more LSDs around than we thought.

Was it an up-spec option?? Maybe they ran short of borgwarners when the Aussie unions went on strike and they threw a few hundred Jap diffs on the boat with the rest of the cars as they imported them. Stranger things happpened, we have Nissan Stanza vaiants here because they unloaded the wrong crates one time and it wan't worth shipping them off to South Africa...

It definitely wasnt an upspec option. Like you said, there must have been a shortage on local units so they ran to Japan for a rear end. Prior to me detailing my ke70 undercarriage, the diff had and in some places still has the red brush marks where bolts and nuts were tightened. It was a practice Toyota did on its mechanical components when they were built on the line. I'm guessing like a quality check.

 

But as I mentioned, 99% of standard ke70s running around both flat and slant fronts have the Borgy diff. Toyota and its tricks.

Yep its an Aussie Borgie, 1.3L and auto = 4.3.1 ratio on that diff. It will be stanmped the tag thats in the picture.

AH even better then as thats the manual diff ratio for a 1.3 anyway :y:. So all you need is the pedal assembly, gearbox and possibly tailshaft I think. I know a ae71 manual tailshaft are different due the number of splines on the shafts compare to an auto one.
