VBlue Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 (edited) Sounds promising that its only the dodgy seals that Toyota put in the original windscreens. So I will be needing a new windscreen anyways to pass blue slip. Took the trim around the windscreen today and there was another ants nest on top strip and the ones on either side of the windscreen had dirt and crap in it. I can definitely tell that the seal wasn't good when scraping the dirt out some points there was just a small mount of rubber seal and not thick in other places in the windscreen. Luckily the top of the windshield has no rust holes, just a little bit of surface rust. Just wondering how much was the whole thing through O'Brien? It was $233 for the resealing with the original screen, or $360 for the resealing with a new screen. I opted to put in a new screen, was worth it I reckon for only $130 more. Didn't take too long, about 1.5 hrs in total. Edited July 26, 2011 by VBlue Quote

I haven't had the problem with my corolla. From the sounds of it it must be leaking from the rear hatch seal or the seal on the little quarter window behind the rear doors. Quote
dannyboy86 Posted August 1, 2011 Author Report Posted August 1, 2011 I think I have solved the mystery of why the water has been dripping down near the accelerator pedal. I took off the right quarter panel to get the body prepped for painting and notice that were the water is supposed to drain out from when it rains which runs down the cowl underneath the front windscreen had been completely blocked. After poking it with a screw driver a heap of dirt and water started to come out. Finished off my putting the hose under were the cowl supposed to be and flushed out both side. Checked inside the car and didn't have any water drops coming in so I'm pretty pleased. Now its just time to get this car painted. Quote
Ben-89 Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Good job /\/\ If you still have the panels off, give that cowl area a light wire wheel and give it a good spray of body deadener. Also spray the bottoms of inside the guards (where the mudflaps screw onto) :y: Quote

I will be posting up a progress build thread soon when I take the photos off the camera. Quote
VBlue Posted August 20, 2011 Report Posted August 20, 2011 How do you go about removing the quarter panel? Since it's been raining again I noticed that there is water inside the car once more >| - am not impressed, so the windscreen was not the source of the water leakage in the first place. I suspected it was through the cowl, there must be something rusted and holed allowing water to seep in on the passenger's side, so I decided to put some cling wrap over the cowl on that side, I'll have to now just put a car cover when I'm at home. For me I guess I would have to remove the left quarter panel, if it's the same way that the water is coming in for mine as it was for yours, how do I do that? Quote

Yeah you will have to take the quarter Panel off, It wasn't to hard to take off. You will need to take out the front grille and head lights if i remember correctly and there are some bolts behind there. 3-4 bolts on top so lift up the bonnet and remove them. Mud flap need to come off with 1 or 2 bolts underneath the quarter panel. I recommend to remove the cowl but you will need to remove the windscreen wipers and then take out all the screws from the cowl. It becomes a bit more of a job when you have to remove all this stuff but hopefully this is the problem and you wont have to do it again. If your going to all the trouble to do the left side you might as well do the right side as it will probably be blocked as well and won't take to much longer to take of the right side. As you can see from the picture above. Stick a screw driver up there and break up the dirt and crap that's blocking the drainage hole. This is when you can stick the hose underneath were the cowl was in the corners and wash it out. If it is block you will be amazed how much dirt and sludge will come out. I kept on washing it until the water ran clear. Hope this helps! Quote
