Willis Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 Hey guys, the KE70 started making this weird arse noise about a week ago. It sounds like metal grinding against metal and when coming to a complete stop the noise increases and i can feel a grinding/shuddering through the brake pedal. I'm not entirely sure what it is but I'm thinking it's a brake pad. Anyone have any ideas?? Also, my 4k seems to be hating life, I'll start it up (usually starts second time) and it will idle roughly at about 8-900 rpm. After allowing it to warm up a bit, it idles between 1000 to 1500 rpm (changes every day). I'll start to take off slowly but when I put my foot down a bit it starts wanting to stall at around 3000rpm until i let off a bit. But as soon as i let off and get back onto the throttle it seems to start picking up until it reaches about 4000 rpm and then it's like it hits boost haha. Just takes off. And occasionally on startup it will make this weird popping noise, it sounds like it's coming from the engine bay and not the exhaust. Anyone have any ideas as to what this may be? Cheers guys, I've searched a few 4k threads but nothing seems to be describing what mine is doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated Will Quote

altezzaclub Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 Needs a tune! Set the points and timing, & check the plugs. Ideally with a dwell meter and give it 10 to 12deg advance. See if it makes a difference. Run it around for a tank full of gas and see how many L/100km you get. Don't tell us $20 does a weeks running... You need full tank to full tank so its accurate. This is because it sounds like its too rich rather than too lean, but a fuel consumption check will help show that. The popping is it backfiring through the carb. Rich comes from shit under the needle and seat valve in the carb, and lean comes from blocked jets and leaking gaskets. Have you done any work on it recently?? Did the problem slowly arrive or just start happening one week?? Quote
