Hey guys,

81' KE55 rolla, when the tank is full the needle points to full as it should but if i drive say 20kms then turn off and restart, the gauge will show 3/4. Some times 1/2.

 

If i bang the dash it may come back up, or on the down hill sometimes.

 

I already have pulled the cluster and sprayed contact cleaner on the tabs on the back.

 

Any others common faults?

My KE70 had a similar problem, would show full and then not work again I was half full

But my problem was in the tank sender

The sender in the tank had worn just where the metal slider/wiper rubs on the resistor.

I pulled the sender out through the inspection plate in the boot and cleaner the rust and other junk off the resistor, bent the wiper to rub a bit harder against the resistor and it been all well since.
