I am looking to buy a nice corolla from the ae-90 - 94 era, with no other preferences except that it has to be manual, and has to have low(ish) kms.

I went to look at an ae-90 with 120,000 kms. Overall the car was okay; the interior was great, but the paint looked like the lady had tried to polish it and had made swirls on it. I'm not too fussed because i'm planning on tidying it up over the summer and eventually doing a few mods, maybe i could get it resprayed. It will have a roadworthy and 10 months rego if i choose to buy it, for $3000.

So my question is... Is it worth it? Should i wait and see if a better car comes up for sale? should i get an RACV check just to make sure there aren't any hidden problems?

Thanks.

Good decision on going for a Corolla :y: For the money your willing to spend you should be able to pick a up a tidy ae92,93 or 94. If you are picky, look at models built in late 1991 to early 1994. The were the update models and had many standard features compare to the 1989-1991 models. Eg air conditioning, power steering, fuel injection, nicer trim levels etc, etc.

Avoid the metallics, they will fade. Solid colours are the best for wear/rejuvenating.

The likes of rust are apparent, so check above the front windscreen, below the rear screen on the hatchback and seca models and possibly the roof gutters. Other general wear and tear items can be replaced with new/aftermarket parts, or good second hand units for a reasonable price.

The 4afe and 5 speed goes really well and like to rev but have plenty of bottom end pull to compensate, depending on your driving nature it may be more sutable than an ae93 with a 4age as they like to be revved out which can be a pain in daily commuting. My average comsumption in city driving is 7l/100km with ac on, to give you an idea.

Take your time, theres plenty around there its a matter of find one you like :y:

Thanks for all your help. I found out that this is an AE-92 (seca)csi limited (the seller made a mistake)

I will check for rust, this one is a 90' model with the 4-afe. Mettallic paint, but it's got such low Kms, (120,000) and the steering wheel and interior are in great nick (i can't type M I N T for some reason) so it's most likely legit. I'm thinking about modding it but that will be in a few months time, it's a good daily and that's all i really need.
