Heath. Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) alright. this is anoying the hell out of me. every one is saying that the ajps springs i want to get are going to be "too low" and that it will be illegal... the height will be, fronts 200mm and rears are 230mm I'm aware i will need short shocks other wise it would be like haveing no suspention "apparently" :angrybird: so my question is. if i put those springs in will it be illegal in QLD. the back will look like the attatched picture.. all you guys have helped me out heaps in the past so right now would be awesome. B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Sounds a bout right thats close to the free height I'm running with my cut stocks and its legal height. If yours a stiffer then they should be ok. If those are 15's in the pic mine are tucking slightly more. Quote
Heath. Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 alright that was what i was thinking too!! i have 15x7s and is just sittin in the Grash on choppies. that are only just above bumps and it isss this low... Quote
BlueKsev Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) It depends how firm your going to have them too, but i can imagine 4 or 5ish? Edit - Reeds got it  I cut these falcon springs i had down to 230mm, it was still legal height. Not legal springs though of course haha. If the wheels aren't sticking outside the guards, theres no scraping of the tyre on guard, then there should be no problems. But the way i see it, is if the police want to pick you up for something, they will. Even if its all done legally, they will find something. Just keep it looking tidy, and not overly low will help you a lot. Edited February 1, 2012 by BlueKsev Quote

Heath. Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 i havnt even looked into that yet! any ideas on how much they will dint my pocket? :blinks: Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) You can run without shorties. But it's not a good idea. If youve been running with choppies and stock struts for ages and a spring hasnt fallen out of the rear by now you should be ok but I'd definitely look at getting short stroke for the rears at least. As short stroke for the front means you will have to get AE86/xt130 etc struts with a bigger inset diameter as they don't make short stroke to fit the stock struts Edited February 1, 2012 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
BlueKsev Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Haha no problems man. And yeah, i would definitely recommend it. When the car hits a bump, or you jack it up, the diff drops down and your spring is free/ not captive. I just run VK/VL commodore wagon rear shocks, they're a nice bit firmer and a fair bit shorter over standard. Also a lot of the specialists on here will say that the shock won't be operating in the optimum range once you have lowered it because it will be compressed and such, which is true as well. Edit: Secretly, the springs not coming out anytime soon, its only once you put ones that don't fit right like the falcon ones i had that they will fall out. But even then they wont go far. It is a lot better with commodore shocks to drive with as well, and mine only cost $20 so you might as well go for it :) Edited February 1, 2012 by BlueKsev Quote

Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 They will fit the 86 struts but not the xt130 as the xt130 lower spring perch is wider. You can weld on a ke70 lower spring perch though. Quote
BlueKsev Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Oh, no damage in the rear, the fronts can be damaged if the car is crazy low but thats crazy low. The shocks were made to operate in the car when they're extended to say, 400mm? And once you lower the car, they're operating at 320mm? Where the rebound and firmness of the c=shocks may be different. Those numbers are only made up too i don't know how long they run haha. Every time i post theres new messages above it must be confusing haha, this is a reply to you asking if it will damage the shocks Edited February 1, 2012 by BlueKsev Quote
