4ke30 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 hi guys, The previous owner of my ke30 was extremely fat so he installed a boss detachable steering wheel, the hub is loose and is griding away I'm just after a new kit, not detachable just a hub n wheel but I'm unsure where to purchase the correct replacement hub and possibly wheel...I'm literally lost as to where to get one cheers for help Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) eBay. Repco. any car shop. You may find it just needs to be tightened. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOYOTA-TA22-TA23-KE30-KE70-AT132-BOSS-KIT-STEERING-HUB-/260945084702?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc18a011e Edited February 3, 2012 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
4ke30 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 ok cheers, how do i tighten it, i have bearly dismantled it to check as i don't wanna make it worse being my only car? Quote
Jono.C Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 I wouldn't buy an ebay boss kit, They're not much more than that to buy one instore. I had an ebay one on my old ke70 when i bought it and it was trashed. May have just been poorly fitted, don't know, but after seeing that i wouldn't touch one. They're roughly 40-50 from autobarn or spg (in tassie) But yeah, it could just be loose, un-do the 6 bolts holding the wheel to the boss kit and there will be one large nut, just check that's properly tighetened and bolt the wheel back on. B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 6 allen key screws on the wheel around the hub. Under the wheel there will be a nut. You may be able to pop the horn button out to get to the nut. Where is it grindy? Is it loose? It could just be rubbing. Quote
4ke30 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 ok, yeah well i am a bit sceptical of buying specific car items off the net, I'm in perth so i guess autobahn here would stock, ill fiddle with it beforehand, thanks guys Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 I have that exact boss kit. Had it for over 2 years. Quote
4ke30 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 well origanlly, the horn wire was rubbing inside, eventually the horn was stuck on when it ripped through the wire insulation, so i disconnected it, after then it got loose and grindy, at the back of the hub where it is suposed to clamp to Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 I'd pull the whole thing off. Unbolt it all. Clean it. Rewire it. Might have just been a half assed job. Quote
4ke30 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 yes, well the bloke i baught it off was very ill, he couldnt finish off the work he was going to do on it on a count he could of died any minute so he flogged it to me with some generous free extras Quote
