Peter Brock Jap Hater!

Wanted to share this with you all, a pre political correctness moment, I hope I posted it in the right area. I hope it's Toyota relevent enough, I bolded my fav comments.

Just reading my lasted copy of wheels....ok well it is the May 1983 edition actually-don't ask, and came across the "Peter Brock track tests Australia's top cars" artical. One of said cars was the Toyota Soarer which was at one stage going to be sold in Oz but wasn't. Not sure if Pete's review changed someones mind but here goes and I quote:

"Is this me? I don't think so. It has advertising agency horsepower. Does it really have a 2.8lt twin cam donk? I don't believe it. The suspension is disgraceful, typical shit Japanese suspensions. There is a total lack of damper control, it feels like as if it doesn't have any shocks at all. It's nice having all those gimmicks but they seem to come at the expense of the rest of the car. The engine is harsher up high than the BMW. A car that looks like this should have a five speeder for quick driving, It's just as well they don't sell it here."

Other funnies are comments like "Geez mister" (Audi 5) "A real sing song" (Alpha GTV) "Bloody Japanese tin boxes" (mazda 626)

Ah Peter, Fair dinkum!! you make me proud.

So its 1983, and Peter Brock is trying to convince me that a VH Commodore with a boat anchor 253 is the BEST THING EVER.

Much better than all these other imported things with their fancy EFI and twin cams and nonsense.

At least he knew where his cheques were coming from.

Probably only thing in his defence he wasn't overly impressed with the factory commodore and it was one of his he was driving and admitted

ther was still more he wanted to do to improve the car. He loved the Alfa V6 it was his "pick of the day"

and he also drove a falcon and said if only Dicky could see me now!!-Oh and he hated it :laff:
