mickjbuist Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Hello I have a KE 36 (1976) I just want to know what the standard brakes are like in these cars. At the moment they seem pretty well useless and finding myself using gears to pull her up, is this normal? I would like to know before i pull the wheels off and check the brakes. This may also be related but i find the car very hard to push even on a flat driveway. Cheers guys Quote
silverra23 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 I haven't specifically had a KE36, but I reckon you have a problem with your brakes worth looking into. The brakes on my Corollas have been perfectly adequate without resorting to using the gears to stop me. Quote
ke70dave Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 from DBA website, you are talking about front 218mm diameter solid rotors, which are 10 or 12mm thick. and rear drums which are about 180-200mm thick i think. nothing all that special, but disc brakes on a sub 1000kg should pull up a few times very well. sounds like you need an overhaul of your brakes, if the mastyercylinder is looking sad get that overhauled. new pads/shoes, discs and most importantly fluid, will do wonders to your brakes.
