corollavan Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 I have just joined the rolla club site. I have a KE70 flatfront panelvan that I have had for years. When I first got it I redid the interior, put dragways on and generally tidied it up. It has never let me down but it has been a bit neglected recently and I want to fix as much as possible to keep it on the road and in rego. I am in a rental property so I cannot do the strip down and full resto it deserves. The motor, brakes, clutch are all still ok. The issues I have are - rust in the doors, bonnet and roof, the window winder mechanisms have seized, the hinges are sagging and currently the thing only working on the dash is the clock. As a van the doors are longer than the wagons and sedans so are hard to come by and the dash is slightly different so the clusters I have found in wreckers in the past do not seem to fit. I have recently moved from qld to nsw so the rego requirements are important. The help I was looking for was - good rust repairer in Sydney area - replacement doors if possible (also would be nice to get new bonnet, grill and headlight surrounds) - ideas for the guages - repair, resto or possible upgrade to digital if this is even possible?? I have found the discussions about Cowra and Orange wreckers so will be planning a trip asap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 It really just sounds like its tired and needs some tlc. Pics of problem areas? And general pics.... for science. Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Probably cheaper to replace panels than pay someone to fix them. Shoot me a PM if you're coming up to Orange in the next week or two & I'll come to the wreckers with you, but late in the week after Easter I'm heading to Cairns for a couple of months... I don't remember seeing a van around the wreckers, but the gaurds and bonnet should be the same. Really, the best answer if you can't buy good doors is to have a panelshop weld in new steel & then you bog, sand and undercoat them, then take them back tor spraypainting. Quote
corollavan Posted March 30, 2012 Author Report Posted March 30, 2012 Thanks for the advice, I will try and post some pics over the weekend and figure out when I can get to Orange if I can't source stuff around Sydney Quote
