KeTen Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 What is the best way to lower transverse leaf get it reset or do i get lower coils any help apperciated thanks Greg And hello to everyone I'm a new guy will post pics of ke soon Quote
Felix Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 are you primarily after looks or handling? if you want a big improvement in handling, fit a swaybar first. so long as your shockies are ok, you will be amazed with what a whiteline swaybar and sticky tyres can do for a ke1x. if you want to lower it, you will need to consider resetting the leaves. this can be fiddly...i met a guy who had 4 goes to get it right. the puny coils do very little, you don't even need a spring compressor to remove them. you can remove the leaves and fit stiffer coils (cut or lowered ke20). this improves handling (so long as you have a swaybar), but it is hard to lower the front much. the spring perches are just too close together. coilovers would be the best setup, if you have a bit of spare cash. Fayt Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) Mine has been lowered on the front, here's what it has done: Its had the transverse leaf removed and replaced with coils fitted to the struts which are off a mazda (I think a 323 model). At the bottom of the struts to the top of the ball joint bracket there's an inch long aluminium spacer to keep the arms level and give as much negative camber as possible. Then finished of with koni suspension and swaybar  By the way gives us picks of your ke10, me like ke10's :) Edited January 19, 2006 by Fayt Quote
muller Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 my old man has a datsun 1000 with the leaf sprung front end and he is in the process of figuring out his front end measurements as he is putting in a larger engine and will have to have a big job ahead of him. ill try to keep you posted on his thoughts and progress if anyones still interested. KeTen Posted January 25, 2006 Author Report Posted January 25, 2006 Thanks guys will try and post pics soon mostly for handling how much for the sway bar Fayt do u remember which year 323 it was thanks any pics of your conversion would be helpful Quote
Fayt Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 (edited) sorry can't remember what year 323 it was ;) maybe when I supply pics you can tell) but at the moment my camera's battery is dead and I don't know if I just charge it or get a new battery, cos I can't find any charger for it :hmm: And swaybars are good, but if you are just pottering around then you hardly notice the difference plus they tend to make the front of the car too stiff, ive disconnected my swaybar until I can get softer springs I'll try my best to my camera working and supply some pic :P I'll try and investigate which 323 model, and then if I find out or find out approx what year they are i'll post them up :P Edited January 25, 2006 by Fayt Quote
Fayt Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 (edited) I got some pics the other day of my struts while I was replacing my steering box, here they are: And I have no idea what 323 model it was, sorry :D I'm even doubting that they are 323's cos I'm pretty sure I could see a toyota logo on them, but i was told that they were off a 323 :o I really hope this helps Edited February 10, 2006 by Fayt Quote
Felix Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) they are ke1x struts. i'd say that the mazda 323 part was in reference to the springs. the strut inserts would have to be a fair bit shorter than stock, otherwise it would have mega droop. probably why you can run it so low and still have captive springs. it's got the little ke1x/2x discs.
