reCOUPErator Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 hey peoples, a quick run down again.. i have ke25 with a 4k and a 4 speed... ive fixed 3 oil leaks so far... oil pressure switch, sparkplug tube o rings, and now the new one. i don't know what the part it is called (fair sad concidering I'm an part time apprentice mechanic) anyways it is he huge cover (crankshaft cover, or timing??) that starts on the left of the waterpump ang goes right along the front of the motor to the bottom (under the waterpump) anyway i can see that it is quite a job to replace this gasgate (leake up near the water pump) and i was wondering what i have to do to fix it? looks like it is kinda simple, just take the belt off, and the pulleys and drop the oil then take the cover off and replace the gasgate! does this sound correct?? um anyother advise? thanks heaps Lee well i have no idea about toyota motors, so any tips would be apreciated, or if you would reccomend taking it to my local mechanic please say so! i also dontm want to spend much cos I'm thinking of taking it off the road ant the end of the year for a full in and out bare metal strip! P.S how hard would it be to get all of the pullies off (I'm guessin the crankshaft wil be fairly hard) Quote
reCOUPErator Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 a little help please someone! lol Quote
Felix Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 the timing cover seal is what you are talking about. don't bother trying to remove the timing cover, or drop the oil. you will make way to much uneeded work for yourself. you will most likely need to remove the radiator to give yourself working room. remove the fanbelt, undo the crank pulley bolt, you will probably need to shock it off with a breaker bar and a SST1 (special service tool 1, ie big f'n hammer). remove the crank pulley, usually you can simply pry it off with a couple of big flathead screwdrivers. pry the old seal out with a screwdriver. then carefully tap the new seal in (a big socket the same diameter as the seal eases the process) and put it all back together. cost you $10 for a new seal and an hour or so to fit it. i have to do the same for my 5k in my ke15. reCOUPErator Posted February 10, 2006 Author Report Posted February 10, 2006 ok thanks for that.... um what car exactly did the 4k originate in? incase it gets hard to locate the correct seal, or would it be the smae as a 3k? would it be worth trying repco or somewhere or just go straight to the dealer! thanks Lee Quote
Felix Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 4k's came in ke55's. the timing cover seal is exactly the same as for a 3k. you could get one from repco, autopro or auto1. a bearing and seal supplier such as CBC bearings would most likely be cheaper. NJ102 is the ACL part number for just the seal. Quote
reCOUPErator Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 yeah i thought it was KE55 thanks! Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 If you have access to a rattle gun, that will make life a WHOLE lot easier when removing the bolt from the crank pulley. Quote
Redwarf Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Another way is to get the correct sized spanner, brace it against something solid, and hit the key. Quote
slapper Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 is it leaking from the crankshaft seal (others have described how to replace) or from the timing cover itself? If the leak is up near the water-pump, replacing the crankshaft seal ain't gonna help! Engine Timing Cover (Front Cover) - Toyota Corolla 1970-1987 Repair Guide Before you get keen with this though, just try tightening up the cover bolts first ... that may be all it needs. enjoy, Slapper Quote
reCOUPErator Posted February 16, 2006 Author Report Posted February 16, 2006 no they were talking about replacing the timing cover seal i think... anyways i ordered the parts at work yesterday and at my price a seal kit, oil filter and 3 sets of windscreen wipers came to $20 and i hav a $100 voucher for reccomending a customer to the company!
