Hi all.....well hooked up the vaccuum for the kickdown to the inlet manifold...took the van for a drive this morning up the street, seems like hasnt made much of a difference to the upshift 1 2 3 automatically in the box...

Took the vaccuum modulator/diaphram off the back of the box,it is pulling in on suction and releasing. So this tells me that with vaccuum it should be doing it`s job...yes i have vaccuum at the modulator end of the line....

So who on here is the automatic specialist??......any assistance would be much appreciated.....this box is untried n tested but i believed it to be sound enough...so not sure if there is other problems that occur,as this is the very first vaccuum kickdown box i have messed with...all other have been cable or bar kick down I.E. chrysler borg warner 35 or chrysler 727 auto`s........long many long years ago...

Regards

Terry

What are the symptoms of the box terry? Is it holding out in the gears and is doughy/dowey when taking off? Even at full throttle? Or is it prematurely shifting through the gears and going straight to top gear?

Hey Matty..... symptoms are...can take of steady and dosen`t seem to want to change up,give it a boot full and it takes of ok (strong under load), back off and settle it down it feels slushy/doughey as it trys to change into possibly 2nd....so once up too speed as such it gets real vague/lazy,possibly slipping feel.....then have to give it more to keep it moving...

Cheers

Yeah certainly doesn't sound right, Although same symtoms as a buggered diaphram, although you have checked that............and the vaccuum source. Could be the piston in the valve body on the other side of the kick down module inside the box, could be sticky? Bands sound like they could do with an adjustment too. Do you know when the box was last serviced in the last car it was in? Have you pulled the pan off to see what the box is like inside? Like if there is any sludge of the sort? It only takes a little bit of foreign matter to throw a spanner in the works,

cheers!

For sure matty it aint right.....holds onto first like a hooker that just made her first dollar........i have no idea on service history condition of the box...i did only get to test it up n back Chris`s driveway at the time...

Havent as yet pulled the pan mate...been too busy doing all the other things the roadie guy said needed replacing..that shit is all done and the trans is the spanner in the works....Yes it has vaccuum tho i do wonder if it is strong enough to pull the diaphram fully open.

There are two wires the exit the right side of the box near the middle but on flat surface above pan....have no idea if they are for neutral safety swithc etc....but i have the safety switch all working in anycase...

Has got me stuffed...but i reckon personally it is stuffed...rebuild...worth it ?????? maybe not...

Thanks for your help Matty

Maybe last thing i could suggest terry is if all else fails, take the rolla up to burpengary trasmissions. The two guys up there are really on the money. I took the pontiac there a couple of months ago, full auto box service was only $140.

cheers!
