hey guys new to the page and imports scene. I have a 82 KE70 with a 4K and 3 speed auto, i am looking to take it out and rebuild the motor. I am after cams, new headers, exhaust system and internals and also a gilmer drive set up.

What you really need is a conversion to manual, the 4K has hopeless performance as an auto. If your rebuild includes a re-bore see if you can get 1500cc 5K pistons, and don't forget to lighten the flywheel and have the crank balanced. The extractors can be bought here on Rollaclub for $220odd, the rest of the exhaust cost me $350, the cam can easily be regound with followers for $170, and you will need to decide what carbs to use- quad bike carbs, twin SUs, twin DCOE Webers, single DCOE Weber, 32/36 downdraught Weber are all used on here. There's even a couple of guys with gilmer drives I think too.

thanks guys. i have found a NZ website that has gilmer drives for the 70's and a store on ebay that has cams. at the moment 70 parts are hard to get in perth abnd the parts i have found are rooted.

also ebay has extracotrs for the 4K and theyre at a reasonable price. what does a re bore, lightened fly wheels and crank balance generally cost? ive found brand new 4K twin carbs for 1500 off an ebay store too.

For 1500 you could buy a whole hot 4k and just drop it in.

the only trouble is finding one that isnt dead or almost dead. I'm hoping to do the 4K up to keep me going for a while and gve me more time to find a 20V non turbo or turbo

Fair enough, seems a waste of money if your just gonna 20V it.

What sort of carbs? Twin DCOEs for that price would be expected.

 

I suppose in the end you sell a hot 4K to someone on here to gain some moey back.

Yes, but that sort of conversion is pretty big- suspension, brakes, gearbox, diff.. it wll take time to assemble it all and get it done.

yeah twin dcoes. i will have a look at import monsters cheers. but a hot 4K will keep me going til i find the right 20V. KY imports in perth have quoted me 3200 for an 86 levin half cut from japan so far
