zmit Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 it would be possible i reckon. u would have to have a bit of knowledge about electronics. u could rip apart a shift light and use the internal circuitry from that and wire that up to multiple leds or bulbs or something. either changing colour, or changing the series of bulbs along with revs. thats the extent of it :D Quote
Ruts Posted March 16, 2006 Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 there are multi coloured diodes that are colour dependant on the amout of power fed to them - that in theory would work well if you had a few lighting your speedo and the current/power was fed via your tacho - high revs should equal high power throughput Quote
Killswitch Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 I remember seeing a car on topgear where the actual speedo needle changed colour depending on the revs. Was quite ricey, but very cool. can't' remember the car though, maybe the new golf? Quote
Ruts Posted March 16, 2006 Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 would be the same principle - just only configure the one light that illuminates the needle Quote
Valandor Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 you can get single led rev limit lights that can be set to whatever revs you want. all you would need would be to have that led light the gauge and differnet rev leds behind and work out something to make sure only one of them comes on at a time Quote
Ruts Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 have them set in series all with different limits - then as the revs climb each light will illuminate as its set limit is reached Quote
Slick86 Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 The new autometer gauges can be set to change color as they move. What do you guys to use to print the gauges on so that the light shines though? Quote
zmit Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 ah... i used an overhead sheet and paper laminated together. but thats a little too thin... so its a bit dodgy. Quote
Ruts Posted March 22, 2006 Author Report Posted March 22, 2006 I am hoping to buy a sheet of Lexan and cut and bend it Then get the images printed to WHITE sticker/film. Then get nick to cut a mask in either black or silver for the rear of the lexan (the silver will block more light than black) ps. My plan will be if I can work out a basic price to cover printing and product I may consider selling custom face plates Quote
Ruts Posted March 22, 2006 Author Report Posted March 22, 2006 i want the silver to be dark - its the blockout - will be behind the guage to limit light only to the digits and arc Quote
zmit Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 hmm.... thats what i should do.... put a mask behind it.... some adhesive material/plastic (or a few layers) just a matter of getting it all... sounds like uve thought through this much more than i did but with the personalisation ive got on it... I'm gonna have to take it off wen i sell it anyway.. Quote
