El31 Gp Turbo Engine Rebuild.

Recommended Posts

gday, recently aquired an 88 el31 corolla II gp turbo.

the car has been sitting for 2 years after some trouble from the bottom end.

the problem is what sounds to be like a spun big end bearing.

I will be removing the head this week to inspect the bores etc..

ill post pics when i work this tablet out.

Ive been searching for a parts supplier but am finding it very difficult to source bearings, piston rings etc. has anybody found any good suppliers in the past for the more scarce toyota 3ete?

cheers

Heard back from toyota ' no listings at all. They have discontinued the 3ete all together in relation to parts.

I have found a lot of the parts for 3e's but not 3ete.

Anyhow the Conrod bearings for 3ee is as follows...

shaft 43.00 / 43.015, tunnel 46.00 /46.020.

Main bearings

Shaft 49.985 / 50.00 tunnel 54.021 / 54.041

They also come in 20 and 40 thou over.

They also do the thrust washers and piston rings.

If anyone knows the size for the 3ete version let me know... I'm going to find out anyway when I eventually pull the block out but for now I'm really keen to know. Also I've looked online for 3ee head gaskets and stuff and most of the gaskets etc look identical.

update:

have pulled engine block out to dis assemble. so far have found no1 cylinder big end spun, main shaft journal 1 worn.

no1 big end journal has considerable amounts of wear... unevenly so aswell. :/ not sure if conrod is out of round but am suspecting so. even though it looks good.

I have compared my measurements with the ones the import shop gave me for the 3EE, as a reference for new bearings. (keep in mind i have used a cheap chinese vernier caliper that i had lying around) my micrometer was "lost"

my engine big end journal: 43.1. New: 43.015.

my big end bearing tunnel: 46.2 New: 46.020

my main bearing journal: 49.46 New: 49.985

my main bearing tunnel: 54.925 New: 54.021

It seems to me the 3EE and 3ETE have the exact same sized crank journals. (I'm allowing for a bit of movement on my measurements because of the lack of a micrometer).

none the less i have to take a fair bit off the crank to get it to and acceptable finish. off to the fitter and turner next week!
