mlaser Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Hey all As some of you know i just moved to south australia and recently moved into my new unit. After setting everything up i thought i would chill out and watch some TV to find that with my old dodgy indoor aerial that i get barely any reception, can get channel 10 but not in colour. I went and bought another aerial one from bigW which was an amplified aerial so now i can get channel 10 in colour not great reception but bareable, but no other channels. So i was thinking of getting a set top box to which i found that majority of them are around the 130 and upwards mark (i didnt do a great deal of searching - no wheels no options). So i was considering buying a Digital TV Tuner, specifically the Leadtek DTV1000 which is around 80 - 100 bucks. My question is, is it worth while? i don't have a VCR and figured if i got a pci tv tuner atleast i can record programs and if i want to watch it on the TV i can simply use the video and audio out. I've been told that digital can be good for places that get crappy analogue reception and i can't stand only having channel 10 as thursday late night is a great channel 7 night (family guy, american dad, scrubs) So yeah anyone with Digital TV tuner experience give me your 2c worth please. woteva Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I have a digital tuner and it is good, it is not a computer card though. I live in the suburbs of Adelaide, You are at Gawler aren't you? Don't know what digital reception is like at Gawler. I have heard that digital tuners don't like the signal to be too strong, so your boosted aerial may not be suitable. This site has some good info about digital: http://www.dba.org.au/ If you buy your card from Dick Smith and it is not suitable for your area you have 7 days to return it. Hope this has been of some help. A. Quote
StephenD Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Once they brought in Digital in Brisbane, our reception went to shit. We had a booster box and as soon as we unplugged it, our free TV came back perfect. That is really wierd Nick. We have a booster on our aerial and a digi set top and have perfect reception across all free to air stations and the extra stations that a digi set top offers. Without the booster our reception isn't that great. Quote
