1965 Crown Deluxe Overdrive Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Wondering how to disengage the over drive gear on a crown. To engage it when the right revs are reached a dash light comes on. Take foot off gas. Till light goes out. Then gas it again and it grabs "overdrive". How do I get out of overdrive?

If this is in the wrong spot mods please move.

My mate has it in his '64 rs46 Wagon i've got a '66 wagon with no overdrive

Put some photos up on there if you want

There is a lot of good information in that thread its a good read

Had one of these in my first crown.

1. with overdrive button in all the time freewheels--got great fuel economy once I realised and took foot off accelerator when on long downhill runs etc.eek.png

2. with overdrive button in only needed to use clutch starting off in first, any other change take foot off accelerator briefly change gear then put foot down again (no need to put clutch in).wink.png

3. with overdrive button in, hit accelerator hard and it will kickdown as autos do, used to kick down and hold second until past 60 mph.biggrin.png

overall one of the most fun setups I had drivencool.png

With the lever pulled out its just a normal 3 speed manual with engine braking

With lever pushed in it will go into overdrive in 3rd gear when you back off the throttle. The revs will

drop off just like you have put it in 5th but with this set up you can just use it like a kickdown in a auto

give it gas and it will change back to 3rd for you.

Just drive it more and you will figure it out
