Darrensan Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Hi, I understand that the KP61 Starlet rack etc is a popular choice for upgrading the steering in a KE10. Would the steering rack from a KE70/AE71 be a possible fit? with some mods? Or are there any other racks that may be a possibility? I plan to keep the factory column but upgrade to a rack. Are there any problems with this way of thinking? Any advice helps. Cheers Quote
parrot Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 It’s more complicated than that, and the attraction of the Starlet rack is its narrowness with resultant reduced impact on steering geometry, which can be a problem with wider donor racks. A basic understanding of recirc/worm steering will tell you that retaining the standard steering column isn’t an option if you go rack and pinion. These days you may want to look into electric steering and so forth. Still requires mechanical attachment to the wheels however. As ever, worth a chat to an engineer sooner rather than later once you understand the issues, and source of necessary parts Quote

Darrensan Posted 18 hours ago Author Report Posted 18 hours ago Just an update. Decided to get a KE70 crossmember, rack and pinion and column. I know that I will have to shorten crossmember by about 20mm on each side and redrill mounting holes. can't say anything else at the moment as I am waiting on the other parts. Will update then. Quote
