  1. TBH, I would rust proof it and keep it how it is. This would be a perfect shitbomb spec candidate. Love it!
  2. don't really know what you mean by winding over, but yes, it "starts", but only very temperamentally. But if you kill it, it will not start again unless you leav it for 30+ mins, and even then there is no guarantee it's going to start back up.
  3. Hey. My rolls wont start, but with a bit of persistence it eventually turns over. It's not a battery. Once it starts it runs as per usual. But the *second* you kill it, and try turn it over again, it doesn't. It just struggles and struggles. I turned the fuel pump on and looked at the filter and noticed the filter wasn't filling up. It's getting spark all well and good, so does my problem lie in my fuel pump? Every now and then the pump sounds like its chugging air, I don't know how to fix this, but if I fiddle around with the pump it stops. Anyway, sorry in advance for the seriously vague explanation, if you need to clarify something just ask me, as I would sure love the help. Pat.
  4. Hello Brethren, Picked this up in my new hometown of Cairns. It’s a 1979 KE55 Corolla. It comes tinted, lowered on Kings / Monroes, with some nice 16” rims, fully resprayed in the original colour of Kingston Blue. It’s got the stock 4K with a 3sp gearbox. First carby I have owned, and first RWD for that matter :hmm: Here it is. I don’t have any interior shots on me at this minute, but will update that later. I haven’t done a lot to it, but I’m in the early stages of planning what to do. I have put the boss kit on it, run a tacho, air:fuel, 12volt, oil temp / pressure gauges. I’ve been trying to track down a 4AGZE/SR20 for it. I might also be looking at a 5K, and if anyone has a 5K + gearbox please let me know. My main and first plan is engine. Other than that, I will endeavour to tackle some of the minor rust bubbles, central locking, new diff (probably a hilux of pintara diff) exhaust (4-1 headers into 2 ¼” pipe). I've been trolling the yahoo.jp auctions for some aftermarket option parts for the KE55, but I'm not 100% familiar with the parts list for the KE55. If anyone wants to track something down from Japan let me know, as I work with a guy in Japan who loads freight for JDM parts for me to distribute. I do this at no extra cost or profit, more of a hobby. Ill keep this updated with my progress. Thanks, Pat.
  5. Happy Monday and G’day. From the outset, let me just re-iterate that I truly hate these kind of threads. I feel dirty doing it, and I’m exceedingly sorry for doing so. I have a 1979 Ke55, it has a 4K 3sp and it sucks. I have been racking my godamn brain for the past few months over what I should do. From a bit of research there are a few options that I have in my mind. 1. 4A-GZE / T50. 2. Build the 4K up. 3. SR20DET 4. Celica motor ( not sure what it’s called, this is my first ever Toyota. ) 5. I read someone saying second hand it was possible to put a VN / VP V6 in it? That would be rad with some sort of information. Also with engine conversions I am aware they have to comply with power / weight ratios, upgraded breaks, engine capacity, engine year, etc. So if anyone has any tips in this regards let me know. I don’t want to rock up to get it plated / regod and them tell me that the engine would make it disqualified from being able to be used on the road. Obviously the best bet would be for the 4A. My first instinct was the 4A. I’ve done a bit of digging around for a decent priced engine package, which more or less would include the T50, loom, ECU, etc. I can’t find anything, and the “cheap” ones I do find, I would have to fork out paying $500+ for shipping (I live in Cairns). I have looked on ebay.co.jp and would be looking at around $2000AUD landed for an engine/box minus electrics. Second option, building the 4K. I read in the FAQ about doing up the 4K, but it really doesn’t make any indication if the gains are worth the money. I just can’t see getting anymore that 100KW out of the 4K at best (this is just an estimation, I'm not sure what a worked 4K could produce) , and for the money spent getting it to that stage would seem like overkill. Anyone have experience with this? SR20DET. Not as common an option as the 4AG(Z)E and I would suspect it to be a harder convert than the 4A? Yet again, anyone with experience, would love to hear from you. I have about $4000 saved up, I can do most of the inane stuff myself, but I have NFI when it comes to EFI’s. TL;DR? What is the most viable engine swap for the KE55, both financially and performance wise. Inb4 “How long is a piece of string” , “FGI” or “RTFFAQ” Thanks.
