  1. Big weekend of stuff. Stripped the S13 over the weekend, and took the motor, gearbox, tailshaft, full loom, all sensors and stuff and the front seats out of it. Engine seems to be in good order, bar a few oil leaks. But that's cool, cause I'm going to change all of them while the motor is out. I also need to go through the standard S13 Loom, and find what wires I actually need to run the motor. My other thought, was just to purchase a haltech loom, without a plug, and just wire up the haltech loom as you normally would, but then splice it into the factory ECU pin outs. Then if later I decide to go haltech, I just buy a haltech connector and switch it across. Next steps are to order my engine mounts off Kaizen Garage up north, and source a T series diff, bolt it all in, check the tailshaft length, and get one knocked up. Then run new high pressure fuel lines, with a surge tank setup, and battery relocated to boot, FMIC and exhaust done, and theoretically, should be boosting. Pics: So in anticipation of fitting a new LSD soon, and while my mate has his welder out in the midst of a V6 Hilux conversion, I decided to weld my diff before the next eastern creek wetpan day, before the CA conversion. Also replaced my castor rod bushes as they were fubared, and causing the car to veer right under heavy braking. Gotta do all the suspension bushes soon too. Engine mounts + gearbox crossmember purchased. Luckily for me, there is a joint in QLD that does kits to suit AE86 sprinter, which works out well because I have an AE86 crossmember at home. Surge Tank purchased. One on the left Lift Pump purchased. 2.5" Dump pipe purchased Cheers, Shazza
  2. Awesome, thanks mate. Cheers, Shazza
  3. I mainly just want the unsealed housing so I can put some Phillips blue in. Is there a place that sells the unsealed housing? I'm guessing the parkers are just LEDs? T10 or T5? Cheers, Shazza
  4. Hi mate, Could I ask as to where you got the HID lights for? I'm guessing you need unsealed lights? Cheers, Shazza
  5. Hey mate, What engine mounts are you using? Any chance you could knock up a second set while you're at it?m Cheers, Shazza
  6. Hi mate, I'm not a fan of cutting and shutting either, but as long as the oil pickup is in the correct spot, then it shouldn't cause too many issues. Can't say reversing the crossmember crossed my mind. Would it simply just bolt back up? Surely there would be additional work needed for the steering rack to mount? Do you have a link of an example of some sort? With the diff, use the WHOLE diff? Whats the PCD on a hilux rear? Cheers, Shazza
  7. For those that aren't aware, the 3RZFE is a 2.7L fuel injected 4 cylinder, that makes around 142hp @ 5000rpm and 217nm torque in stock form.. It has a 95 bore x 95 stroke, and runs a 9.5:1 compression ratio from the factory, which is perfect for low boost applications. A company in America (LCEngineering) does complete kits to rebuild these motors, as well as factory TRD supercharger kits with a choice of different pulleys. I will be getting the motor and a hilux 5 speed off a mate in the coming weeks, and then I will be slowly acquiring the other parts to make the conversion happen. As the hilux runs a hydraulic clutch, and the KE70 is cable operated, a AE71 pedal box will be a must, along with a much larger clutch master cylinder and brake booster. I already have ventilated rotors on the front, with massive Toyota Tarago brakes, so the suspension and brakes are already done. Luckily, I have a AE71 crossmember already out of the car, so I can fab up some custom engine mounts to where I think it should be sitting. The sump is an issue with the conversion from what i've read, as most Hiluxes run rear sump setups, which does not suit the AE/KE crossmember, so I'm trying to source a Toyota Tacoma (USDM Hilux 4x2) sump, which apparently has a more center/front sump due to it not being AWD. LCEngineering in USA make a custom dry sump setup, but goes for over $3k, which I am not keen on doing at the moment. I think a cut and shut on the sump should do it, as the oil pickup is at the front of the sump if i recall correctly. The Hilux 5 speed apparently fits in with relative ease, however, after looking at the dimensions of the box compared with the body of the Rolla, I think the gearbox tunnel may require a bit of massaging to fit. Gearbox X member will be fabbed to suit. (Anyone have any input on this at all?) Tailshaft will have to be a custom one. The hilux one will be too long I'd imagine, so will need to be cut down to fit. This brings me to the diff. I'm still unsure of what to do here, but I've been reading that there is a few people who are running Hilux diffs, and rightly so, as they are strong as. I just need to find out whether or not they are using the complete diff, or just the center. If it is the whole diff, do I simply need to drop the diff out of the KE70, cut the diff mounts off both diffs, and weld/reinforce the KE70 mounts into the Hilux diff, then send the whole thing away to a diff shop to get the axles cut to length, and upgraded? I will also fit a LSD to the diff while this is happening. Fuel tank needs one of two things to happen. First option, is to purchase a JDM AE86 EFI tank, that comes with baffles inside the tank to limit surging. The second option is to weld some baffles into my factory tank, or run an external surge tank/lift pump/HP pump seperate. ECU wiring shouldn't be too hard. I'm actually considering biting the bullet, and running a full aftermarket from the get go, as to limit the amount of wiring in the engine bay. Alot of research to go, but all is looking good for the moment. Cheers, Shazza
  8. Hi Rob, Cheers for the info mate. Hilux diff seems the logical way to go, and will make knocking up a tail shaft easier. I've also heard there is a decent availability for LSD centres for a Lux diff. How did you go about the diff in your mates rolla? Is there a specific year model that I should look for? Any variant stronger then another? Cheers, Shazza
  9. Gents, I am shortly going to be acquiring a 2000 model 3RZFE and Hilux 5 speed, that I want to put into my KE70. Now I've had a search, and it has brought up some issues with sump configuration fouling on KE70 crossmember and what not. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this conversion? There's a few things I'd like to know in particular. - With the sump, there is a bit of info flying around that the USDM delivered Tacoma, which is essentially a Hilux, came with a slightly different sump config. How true is this? - Does anyone have any pics of a 3RZ sitting in a KE70 bay? - I'd like to leave the firewall intact. I know I won't be able to sit the motor back further, but that isnt a huge issue for me. I've read it is a rather tall motor, any issues with bonnet closure? - Any factory tail shafts mix and match to suit? - Diff is obviously going to be upgraded. Anyone have any suggestions? - Any issues with steering rack clearance? I know there is a few other 3RZ conversion threads, but I will be documenting the conversion quite closely so that others have a point of reference if they are wanting to go down the same road. Cheers, Shazza
  10. Put some fusion splits in the front today. $39 from Supershit auto. Also vinyled the kick panels where the speakers go. The bits where the bolts go are gunna be painted black with a permanent marker. No chance of getting the vinyl to go down and in them. Cheers, Shazza
  11. Might be worthwile having a look into the Jaycar Rev Limiter kit, that takes a signal from the RPM wire to the ECU, and can be set at a certain RPM to cut fuel and ignition. Great kits, they are. Cheers, Shazza
  12. Ahh okay. Will have to find a workshop manual with a breakaway diagram of the motor and suss out what it is you're referring too. Thanks for the link by the way, it was most informative.
  13. When you say "put everything from the DET onto the DE" does that include internals, or just bolt on stuff, without cracking the motor open? With the restricter for the oil feed, I'm guessing it has something to do with an oil pump pumping all the oil out of the sump, into the head at high boost, and the drainage not being able to keep up? Its a common problem on RB26DETTs. Maybe the DE's oil pump has a higher flow then the turbo one? Cheers, Shazza
  14. Interesting. Did you just use standard CA18DE pistons, or go for something forged? I'd imagine a metal head gasket would be a must, along with an ARP stud kit to stop the head from lifting under high pressure due to the high comp. What management system did you use? DE injectors, or DET injectors? Cheers, Shazza
  15. Hi mate, No intentions to paint the car a different color at this stage. The poo beige is actually growing on me. I know this next bit may upset the purists a bit, but the current plan is to bang in a CA18DE, and strap a set of modified quad throttles and an EL exhaust manifold, with big lift cams. Later down the track, if this isn't enough power, then I'll be strapping a SC14 to the side. If that still isn't enough, then i'll bin the extractors, and look into a twincharge setup. Cheers, Shazza
