Got myself a pair of xt130 struts for the ae71 the other day, tierod ends, and some steering arms but have not got xt130 LCA.I will modify the steering arms myself to get my lock back and as for the LCA's I don't see why I need them as I don't want negative camber, and once lowered it should take out any positive camber.It has been a bit of mucking around getting them in and I still haven't finished yet, I will post photos when it's done.I also did not know you had to flip the spring and use the ke70 top hat/spring retainer.

My rims finally arrived yesterday, now to get some wheel nuts to fit them and some new tyres.Test fitted one and they sit right out in the guards, may need to flare the guards not sure yet.

Funny you should say that, I was just thinking about doing the tappets and may aswell check the timming while I'm at it.The last owner (of my wagon) was a mechenic for NRMA and said he recoed the head and put a carb kit through it (still have the box for the carb kit in my glove box) so I beleive it had been done, as for the head I can't say for sure but I did a compression test and it read 150psi, 152psi, 151psi & 147psi so it may have been done, either way seems to be in good heath for a 30 year old engine.

Oh I almost forgot, I done the points gap on the old girl aswell and what a difference it made runs 10 times better and acutely pulls from idle now, before it had no bottom end power and was easy to stall not to mention trying to do a hill start "forget it" but it's really fun a zippy now, I'm very happy with the way it runs now :D

So I finally found the time to finish my exhaust today, and it sounds real nice, has a nice rasp to it at about 3500rpm and onwards but not too loud so hopfully won't attract to much attention.Also fitted my steering wheel but needed to modify the boss kit to fit properly as the self cancel and horn contact did not line up (even tho the ebay seller said it was for a ke70) looks to be off a seca or somthing.

Well thats good to know, gonna have to keep my eye out for one at the wreckers.

I'm from north queensland so the heat don't bother me really.I'm assuming a ra60 sway bar is stiffer than stock and bolts straight in?

Bought this with a boss kit for $60, depending on how it looks on the car I might paint it a different colour.

Ok so time for abit of an update, I have finished installing the stereo which consist of an alpine head unit (which I got from the wreckers for free) sony xplod 6 inch splits in the parcel shelf (brought off a mate brand new for $20) and pioneer 4 inch splits in the kick panels (got off a mate free).So the whole thing only cost $20 bargain!.I ran all new speaker wire for all 4 speakers as the toyota loom was rubbish, I also had to cut the original speakers to use the outer part as mounts as the 4" did not fit. I also installed some hella LED fog lights under the front bumper to go with the new globes.The fitting instructions said to wire them in so they are always on when the ignition is in the ON position, but I decided to put in a toggle switch in the dash to turn them on when I want, only when the ingnition is ON to prevent a flat battery if I forgrt to turn them off.I put the tail lights back in to with some new seals.

Ok so today I finished the body work around the boot, took awhile but it's done now and turned out ok I think.

I have been busy so have not posted updates in a while, but progress is going well as I have started on the body work around the boot.Also I have installed some new speakers in the parcel shelf, new head unit and got some LED fog lights to mount under the front bumper, aswell as some narva 100 plus globes which to my suprise are very good compared to the old ones.And hopefully I will be getting these rims by the end of the week. They are cheviot turbos, should look good on the old girl.

Well progress is going well, I got the engine running 3 days ago for the first time in months after having troubles with the coil not sparking.I could not believe how easy it started, poored some fuel down the carb and started first go with no choke BLOODY AWESOME!!!.Yesterday I got the the clutch cable on and pop riveted the cupling on the firewall, put new oil in the gearbox, drained the old fuel out and put fresh stuff in and tidyied up the wiring, I also put the front end back together.Took it for a drive up the street and every thing seemed to work but the carb could do with a tune as it's abit rough below about 2500-3000 rpm but I'm happy I've made it this far, still have to tackle the body work some more but want all the little things done first.Anyway heres some more pics.

Today I have been busy fitting my dump pipe on my corolla (I like to hear my engine lol) I have made it a bolt on affair using some flanges off some old exhaust pieces I had lying around.The reason why I did this is in case I get defected and need to change it back, also for rego inspection but should not be an issue, well hopfully.Will upload pics of progress soon.

So today I found a spare airfilter housing and this happend. Also took some more recent pics of the interior (needs a good clean) and rust repairs it's getting there slowly but surely. Oh and I was walking down the road and found this on council pickup outside an old mechenics shop (score).

Yes I will be puting the ae71 crossmember back in later down the track and going down the 4age route but I want to put in w55 with nitespares bell and hilux diff, one day hopefully and eventually turbo the 4age then I will have my dream car lol. Haha yeah education is expansive, every time I go to bunnings gas weld etc I'm like a big kid in a candy store can never have enough tools.

Hi people, so I been working on my little corolla for a while now and thought I would make a thread about my build process.It's a 1984 AE71, I brought the car for $400 of an old hippie lady lol. Anyway when I got the car it had a stuffed 4a in it and had oil all over the engine bay god now's what happend to the poor old girl but that didn't bother me as I had a ke70 wagon with a clean dark blue interior and only 143000km on the clock, so I decided to scrap the wagon and go for the sedan (woohoo) I have wanted one of these since I was 13.When I got it home I pulled the dash out and all the pinchweld, platic trim and so on and replaced it with the dark blue stuff from my wagon, the only thing I left that was original was the velour seats, while I had the dash out I put my manual pedalbox in from the wagon, the AE71 was auto :(( like most of them. I then pulled the 4a out the hard way, as I didn't have a engine hoist, first I pulled the head off to lighten the load then got under the car with no axle stands jacked up on scissor jacks and tyres in case the car fell off the jacks unbolted the gearbox and tailshaft then pulled the gearbox out by myself (in other words a pain in the arse) then pulled all the crap of the motor an engine bay and then lifted the block out by hand which was akward but I got it out.Next I took the ae71 crossmember out and left the sruts in as my ones in the wagon were stuffed.Oh and I done everything the same way when removing the engine and driveline from the wagon except I had a friend help me lift the engine & gearbox out compleate after cutting the rad support pannel off. Then I got the engine from the ke70 and took the old k40 off it to put a k50 behind it that came with the AE71, I then had to drag the engine on a old tyre to the front of the AE and jacked it up and put two tyres under each side of the front doors to give me enough room to slide the 4k under the front end (dodey I know) but I got it under there just.So next step was how to lift the engine up so I went upstairs got my barbell weight bar and ran it across the two shock towers with a bit off chain connected to the motor, then I got a friend on one end with me on the other and we lifted the 4k up bit by bit as another friend slid tyres under the sump each time tightening the chian, once we got it high enough we took the tyres out and let the engine hang off the bar while we put the ke70 crossmember in (worked a treat). Thank god thats done :hail: lol, next task was bolting the gearbox up which once again I done by myself, fun fun but it went on pretty easy but had to cut the plug off for the reverse lights as the 5 speed had a different plug (came from a flat front XX) then on go's the manual tailshaft, I had to cut the hole around the shifter to allow the manual to fit (still got to tidy it up a bit).Then i took the loom off the 4k and just pluged it into the plug on the firewall to easy right, WRONG!!! the loom on the 4k had 5 pins where the plug on the firewall had 6, the extra pin turn out to be the wire for the starter solenoid, it took me 2 days 2 starter motor swaps, cutting all the condue off the wiring loom and checking all the wires, cutting off and re soldering the fusible links 3 batterys and a ignition barrel swap to find out the hard way it was just the 6th pin going to nothing, so i cut the wire and ran it to the solenoid and what do you know it cranked straight over FFS :bash: what a effort for a 2 min fix oh well I know next time.Anyway while I had the soldering iron out I relocated the coil to the correct side of the engine bay with some wires I found out of an old power cord (works).Unfortunetly as we all now these car love to get cancer in the boot and rear arches so mine was no exception but pretty good compared to my wagon and others I've seen, so time to attack the rust my favourite job :notimp: .What I like to do when making plates to weld in is cut the rust out with the grinder without marking it out (yes I'm lazy) then cut, bent and shape the plate by eye till it fits nicely (who can be bothed making templates anyway) and it seems to work for me PS: bogs for finishing not for filling holes imo. I have started work on the rear inner wheel wells as they have rusted around that stupid water logging shit they put between the pannels c'mon toyota you should know better lol. Took the wire off the solenoid (the little one) and checked to see if power was running trough it when ignition was off and read 0 volts then reconnected and now it's doing the same thing as the one I just took out WTF!!! turn the key nothing, I'm almost ready to trow a match in it very frustrating.

Ok bit of an update tryed using the spare starter I had with just the two wires and the moment you connect the battery the motor starts turning but the solenoid is not moving.I have not tryed starting it because of this problem so ʞ©$ɟed if I know whats going on.Anyone got any ideas?

I put the multimeter on the positive off the starter and earth on engine/body of the car and read over 12 volts is this right am I getting power to the starter? Still don't know what this other wire is for can't be there for no reason, I think this must have somthing to do with it but it's the original starter for this engine and loom so where did the wire go on my other car, really stumped on this one.

Ok got under the car today to find that there are 3 wires going to the starter, the thick one that bolts on, the one to the solenoid and there is another plug on a very short bit of wire coming off the solenoid what is this for? there are no plugs on the wiring for this? My other 4k starter (from a flat front) does not have this wire WTF.

The engine loom got changed when I put the 4k in it, only reverse lights and two other wires not sure what they do but bridged them and made no difference.

Ok so i put a 4k manual into my ae71 auto and got everything working but the motor won't crank over I know it's not the battery because I have tried another one and same result.The motor started when I riped it out of my ke70 and all the dash lights come on but won't crank.I have turned the motor over by hand so I know nothing is stoping the motor spinning.Anyone know what could cause this?
