  1. A little update on the progress: Ive decided on going with a 20v running an adaptronic after market ECU (Still have to find a dealer to discuss) Ive found an engineer who sells the water pipe conversion the rwd and the blanking plates to cover the dizzy He told me that 4AGZE pistons fit straight in for the turbo aspect. I'm going to talk to a friend at Toyota to see if I can get some indepth details on the 20v to give to an engine specialist to get the best out of the motor. Ive ordered the engine mounting kit and a hydraulic pedal box as well as Ive made some ground on brakes (although still not much) Ive been told if I get AE86 struts and steering arms that they are pretty easy to fit and if I can find the Vented rotors all the better Anyone know the specs on RA23 diffs and TA22? ratio and strength sort of thing?
  2. Ahh, so they basically bolt straight on minus the re-drilling of the rotors.
  3. With the brakes, are they all mounted on the standard struts? By the looks, standard I mean ke30-55 struts too hah
  4. The main use of the car will be track, but on occasion I wouldnt mind going for weekend trips somewhere in it. Not far away obviously but yeah I don't mind if its hard to drive at low stop start speeds because I hopefully wont be doing much of it. I have some spare time now so Ill have a look through some build threads. Also I'm going to contact an old friend who has a performance shop and see if he can recomend somewhere to discuss turbo related things
  5. Thankyou this is the sort of stuff I was looking for hah So I could even go lsd if I find a silhouett? (one came into our work as a trade in and they wanted $300 for it complete, shattered...) What thread or area should I look in for the front suspention/brakes? I had a quick look before I posted this at the start and had no luck. I havent done any forced induction training but I know there is a formula to work out the correct turbo so yeah Ill be going to an expert once I decide on a motor. So two things left: Anyone know a trust worthy shop in vic that they have used or know someone who has? And whats the best motor to go with (toyota only) is it worth going 20v?
  6. Just to add, the turbo can be done at a later stage (I'm still on my p's) my goal is if I go 20v to have it built ready for the boost and in the car running pos. On an aftermarket ecu depending on budget.
  7. Ive just heard that the 31 brakes fit, not fussed on make when it comes to brakes as long as they have good stopping power. AE86 huh? Do any retailers have kits or will I have to go second hand? Not worth going disc rear with an rx diff? Wouldnt that beway easier because theyre already leaf spring? I was thinking something like a small turbo to go to 5-7psi on low revs and have a larger one kick in for the higher boost. I want something perky, power straight away and quick reving. A motor built to habdle 25-30psi but only running 15-20 for now.
  8. So if I get a set of front struts inc brakes off a r31, has there been a write up on what needs to be modded to fit them? The point of me doing this is to build my own car, not taje a perfectly good (or close to it) car and move the stuff i to mine. don't want to paint the car and if I did I could do it myself, interior is done and I have a roll cage all i need is a seat and harnes which can come later. What I'm doing is basically running gear, suspension and brakes. Thats it, and thats what the initial 10k is for. Nothing else haha
  9. Ill be putting it on club plates at first and if I really feel the need to which I doubt ill get an engineers cert for a rw. I know that it wont be enough to get a fully built car but like I said if I can get it ready I can save up and do the turbo work later. Also curious as to whether that was all trade pricing? I'm kind of getting the hint that I should pick and build a motor before looking at suspension?? :/
  10. The twin turbo is more for something different really, as soon as I go to a turbo specialist and they tell me theirs no point is pretty much when I drop the idea too hah I'm a qualified mechanic and have a full workshop (just bought welder compresser and pretty much everything else Ill need) I have been working on corollas since I was a kid and while doing my appenticeship had the fortune that one of my bosses was a panel beater by trade so I picked up the basics from him and also fixed all the rust in the car (so yes I already have the car) I will be building the motor myself to save costs and also because thats what I would like to do. Most engine builders don't offer warranty on motor builds like this so I shouldnt really be losing much. Its a 10k start budget, I was thinking 5k into suspention/drivetrain exc-trans and 5k to get a running motor in the car and ready to be boosted. So no turbo but with forged internals and ecu to suit the build ect I just want to get a rough idea on the parts Ill need for the suspension first and whether going with R31 front brakes is a good move and if its worth going disc rear end with the rx or staying drum. Also I guess I should mention that the car will be for Sunday drives and Track Days
  11. Need some guidence from some people that have already done sinething similar (want to do it right the first time if I can hah) If anyone could link some similar build threads or throw some ideas my way that would be great My ideas so far are either a: 20v + twin turbo 16v ze + twin or pos. Just single R31 front end RX3 rear? Or hilux because its easier and cheaper I'm located in western suburbs Vic so some shops that might be able to help me out with turbo choice and and ECU set up. Thanks in advance for any help guys!
