Yeah the mechanic at my work keeps on talking about it
He says go see it

thats never had the carby touched or rebuilt.
So do you reckon chances are its all in the carby?
it works out to about 1$ of petrol per 10K's. thats what it usually works out to regardless of petrol cost.Thats what it is for me too.

No mods whatsoever.
I am a computer technician. I have no real Idea about cars.
I know how to change oil, oil filter, spark plugs, spark plug leads, battery, air filter, coolant but thats about it.
I would not be game to rip off my carby.
If i could get 450km from 40L I would be over the moon.
I don't even get that on the highway.

Vaccuum Guage Install - Cheap
Get the Carby rebuilt and rejetted if necessary - Cheap
These should get you well on your way to fuel savings
My grandad has a Vacuum guage in his VH Dunnydore. Does it tell you fuel economy?
How much is cheap?
And how much is cheap for a carby rebuild?

Yeah, i don't feel like killing her to save a few bucks.
I know the fuel economy ain't too bad, but after driving Nana's new Toyota Echo Automatic, and having 300km cost me $18 in her, i just wanted one.
The only other place you get that kind of saving is LPG.
How do you tune a 4K-C? What numbers do i need?

Hi All
I have a 1980 KE55 Sedan with a stocko 4K-C in front of a stocko 5 speed.
She drinks too much for my liking. 400km will be 48L or so, and it doesn't really change much whether I have a bad case of lead-foot-itis, or i granny drive her. Thats city driving though. She comes down to about 40L for 400km of highway.
I have changed oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs. I use normal Unleaded and FlashLube fuel treatment.
She's got plenty of power. I don't need any more power.
What are some ways I can make her drink less without losing power, and without costing the earth?

My strongest apologies, my mistake.
I went and got the manual to scan, and I read it - 50L.
I apologise to all. It is infact a 50L tank not a 45L like I had remembered. I must have been getting confused with the stated 45kw - the dismal power output of these motors.

Oh okay
I have the toyota original owners handbook.
I will scan and post soon, i gotta do that for the specs part of the forum anyway.
My last fill was 44.92L. I thought i was dead empty, but you're probably right.
I'm no expert, and i'd believe you absolutely.
I have a October 1980 KE55 Yellow CS Sedan 5 speed 4K-C.
Stock as stock can be.
Original mudflaps and all.
Probably 50L then.

I run my 4K-C on regular ULP with flashlube fuel additive. Its the one on the counter of nearly every servo. Don't pay $3.50 for a 50mL bottle, go down to Autobarn and pay $16.99 for a Litre.
I reckon I notice a difference with the Flashlube, doesn't stink as much when started, just a bit more power.
Fuel economy is still shit - 400km to 44L.
My factory original tank is 45L - or so says my KE55 owners manual.
-
Yeah some of the more cosmetic changes are:
Different Dash in later KE55s (Mid 80s and on)
Square headlights (mid 80s and on)
My KE55 is a 5 speed factory box
Other little stuff like door handles and things like that.
My owners manual says 875kg for a Stock KE55 manual.

45kw at the flywheel. I've still got the original showroom booklet from back in 1980. I'll crack it out one day and post some more specs.

I would come with my ke55 but I'm in brissie...
