  1. Update!!! / not.... Kind of, the diff conversion is underway. Oh cool mate, I was thinking about giving them a resto, what is the product called? Where can I get it from?
  2. Yeah no update... been on hold since the show.. money troubles... I got my diff out last weekend though, and I have an F series rear to shorten down and put in, so should have an update once that's done over the next week or two.
  3. The black oversized bumpers have definetaly grown on me and I think I'll keep them on! Here's my car with the rest of my club at 4 & Rotary South Island Champs on Saturday. We won best club theme, best Toyota, Best Wagon, Judges award and Best RX conversion. Here's the rest of the club members rides.. Now the show is outta the way, just sold my spare SR20 so ive got some money to throw at it!! Time for a diff transplant.. F series here I come.. then d shaft, radiator and hoses, throttle cable and were away laughing !
  4. Thanks bro, I payed $995 (NZ dollars) brand new.
  5. Just got tyres fitted today at Patterson Brothers Tyres, got real good service there.. Also had to get some special small wheel nuts and a special socket for them so they hooked me up with all that too. Put my park bench spec bumpers on front and rear, because I don't have a matching pair of chrome bumpers. I put the carpet in and the rear seat in.. Things to do before show day Saturday: Find steering rack clamp brackets, put it in and hook it all up to struts Fit front calipers Attatch steering colomn to steering rack Get rear shock rubbers for the diff mounts Attatch rear boot lock Get clip for left rear chrome window trim Find front left bumper indicator (housing & lens) Fit MR2 seats Put dash in That's it. Had today off work, got heaps of shit done.. Got the rest of the week off to get it all finished. Here's some pics
  6. Only a month till 4 n Rotary nationals in Christchurch NZ... I'm really pushing to get her finished in time!! This means I will be sticking with factory AE70 radiator and factory diff untill after the show, as I don't have the money to get that stuff in by that time, will be running cut springs in the rear to match the height of the front, that's untill after the show of course and I can chuck in the adjustable setup with the new diff.. Everything else is pretty much done, engine, exhaust, hyraulic clutch etc etc... Still have to modify driveshaft and make a driveshaft hoop. I'm buying a set of these Sportmax 513 rims (15x8 -0p) which are going to be cheaper than making steelies! They look good and they will do untill I can afford / find some proper jap wheels. Just got tyres the other day, Nankang ns2's 195/45/15's... the guy f@$ked up and gave me one 16" tyre so gotta get that swapped up.. Just a random pic of the SR20 mounted up
  7. Cheers man, I don't care what anyone thinks about cross-breeding, I don't want forgiveness. I'm a huge Nissan / Datsun fan too, and the SR20 is one of the best 4 cylinders ever made. Best power for money spent. Exhaust is nearly finished, gonna be putting the mr2 seats in soon and interior can go back in.. Hydro clutch setup nearly finished, just have to cut a plate to go between the pedalbox and firewall to give it a bit of strength as the firewall tends to flex under pressure from the clutch pedal.. On a side note, for those who like boso / shakotan style cars, I just bought this beast from Japan... Can't wait to build it up!
  8. Well.. Not much to update.. Finished mounting the engine.. Got all the materials for my 2.5" exhaust, should be welding it up tonight / this weekend, with wiring the engine to follow that.. Couple of pics.. Holes we made in the firewall for the hydraulic clutch setup.. Engine all mounted up! 2.5" piping for the zorst..
  9. It was in a half cut and the guy wanted $800 for the motor and box. But he's a complete g wigger knob jockey that doesn't know shit about cars, so we haggled him down to $440 and we swapped him a couple of ecu's he wanted, he was happy as. 110,000 ks on the motor :(
  10. OK... I don't know why, but good deals seem to keep flying my way... Last night I picked up a complete S14 vvt SR20DE with gearbox and everything still attatched as if it was still running, came from a half cut... Haggled the guy down from $800 (nz$) to $440!!!.. So now I have everything that I needed to find anyway, for my other motor... Got stuck in this weekend, got the engine sitting where it will be mounted on the crossmember. Made our measurements for the mounts, just have to tack them to the xmember and take them to get welded up by a pro.. Here's the S14 SR20DE package as it turned up. Scored a TE71 pedal box to make hydraulic clutch conversion heaps easier.. Swapped my power steering rack for a manual rack.. As you can see the silvia gearbox that came with the motor was very long, couldnt get it to fit without mounting the motor too far forward... So we went on the hunt and picked up a gearbox from an L20 Nissan motor from an R30 Skyline.. Huge difference in size.. The awesome thing is that the L20 box bolted straight up to my SR20 bellhousing... only thing we had to change was swapping one of the main shaft bearings from the silvia box on to the L20 to make it fit the bell... :( Ya can't do an engine swap without getting some serious meat sweats on... And this is how it's sitting at the end of the weekend.. Just another good shot of the car Mounts and hydraulic clutch conversion to be finished this week hopefully..
  11. Just scored a package I couldn't refuse, from the dark side... A full rwd setup SR20DE with gbox, loom, everything for very, very cheap... :) So the 4AGE, K50, Loom and all is for sale.. My new motor
  12. I'm thinking about what sort of caster to run for a good responsive steering setup.. Positive? Negative? I've read ALOT, but I'm still pretty new to fully tuning suspension setups as this is the first car I've built up myself. I will be putting in ke30 control arms which are 10mm longer than factory *e7* ones to give myself about 1 deg negative camber. What have you all got on your cars? And what effect does it create?
  13. I've got a 1982 AE70 Hardtop Corolla, with hard 8kg springs up front and modified factory struts (same size as AE86) to adjustable coilovers. I'm thinking about what sort of caster to run for a good responsive steering setup.. Positive? Negative? I've read ALOT, but I'm still pretty new to fully tuning suspension setups as this is the first car I've built up myself. 14. Got the 4AGE in and all wired up, ready to start up, except for a couple of things we had trouble with. One of the threads on an engine mount bolt hole in the block was f@%ked, so we're getting on to that with a die tap. Also need to get a couple of longer bolts for the new 4A top water inlet housing and modify it slightly, need new radiator hoses, make alternator bracket, and a couple of things I can't think of right now... It's been a long, busy weekend and things didn't quite go as quickly and smoothly as we had hoped, but nothing ever does. So I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.. Hopefully I'll have a start up video to show in a couple of days!!! Nearly finished making the alternator bracket, should have a die tap by tonight which we can use to re cut the bolt hole in the block and get the engine mount on nice and tight. Wiring is %100 complete, all electrics are going, heater, lights, gave the engine quick turn over to check and it's all ok. Also have to modify the top water inlet just a little, then everything is done and we're sweet to go. Just have to put interior back together, fit MR2 seats, new tyres, brake pads & brake fluid, new accelerator cable, attatch speedo cable and clutch cable.. maybe a couple more things but I'm getting damn close!
  15. Got my clutch and flywheel sorted.. Seals have been replaced.. Sorted an Nissan RB fuel pump.. Intake manifold getting cut and shut right now.. RWD sensor housing been swapped, water lines and water pump outlet done.. Loom is away with my mate from NZEFI being prepared for the conversion, going to be setting up the wiring tonight all ready for the weekend. My TRD shocks arrived from ryanfels on club-k.co.nz, thanks bro! So that also makes my front suspension setup finished untill I decide to get some camber plates.. It's getting so close to the road now!!!
  16. One way which I found quite good was, bolt a chain to the side of the block, and to the bit where the flywheel bolts to, then your crank aint gonna move when it has force applied to it. Tim
  17. Engine is going in this weekend :dancing: So here's how the to-do list is looking now.. -Fit MR2 seats -Fit interior bits and plastic / finish assembling dash -New brake pads -New brake fluid -New tyres -New accelerator cable -Install new BC adjustable rear setup -Install new TRD front shock inserts < DONE -Shorten front struts 40 - 50mm < DONE -4A-GE 200mm clutch < DONE -4A-GE 200mm flywheel < DONE -Bigger main fuel line < DONE -Bigger external fuel pump < DONE -Accelerator Cable < DONE -Clutch Cable < DONE -MR Intake plenum cut and shut < DONE -Install Spigot bearing < DONE -RWD water sensor housing < DONE -Extractors -Waterpump (swapped from 3A-U) < DONE -RWD Thermostat housing < DONE -Engine mounts (swapped from 3A-U) < DONE -RWD Water pipes < DONE -Power steering pump < DONE -Replace front crank seal and whatever other seals need doing < DONE -Have 4A-GE wired up < DONE -LVVTA Certification -Warrant of fitness and Registration
  18. The TRD shocks I've bought A cool edit I made of the car..
  19. Just finished replacing the front and rear crank seals, took the inlet manifold off, ready to have it "cut and shut". Attatched the RWD rear water sensor housing to the back of the head. Also scored this brand new rwd 4age water line from my mate Farzy! Stoked! Here's one of the struts, now that I've moved the threaded sleeve down 60mm, and had the strut tube shortened another 40mm. Also had the brake rotors skimmed. Just bought some brand new TRD shock inserts from ryanfels, thanks buddy. So I should have the front suspension all back together and ready to roll by the end of next week!
  20. I got my struts back yesterday, think I've got it right this time. I'm taking my brake rotors in to get skimmed and the calipers checked at Safe R Brakes tomorrow morning. Has anyone ever welded one of those threaded adjustable platforms to the rear spring seat??
  21. Just dropped the struts off to have the adjustable platform moved down 60mm on the strut body, and having the strut body shortened 40mm. Also while I was out, picked up an ACL 4A-GE conversion gasket set from Partmaster for $50 8/ Turns out the D2 shocks I was going to be buying off a mate for my front setup, are too long for what my strut body is going to be. Enquired about some new shocks, and looks like I'm getting some brand new D2 front inserts valved for 450lb - $500.
  22. Took the A/C, MR extractors, rear water sensor housing all off the block. Getting some 4A-GE RWD extractors made up by magoo muffler, bought a RWD water sensor housing from a mate up north island. Didn't get the time to get the 3A-U out last weekend so I'm hoping to get it done this weekend. Still to be done.. -Chop and weld left front headlight mounting bracket off other guard, as the one I have had paneled and painted is from a 1980 AE70 with a different headlight and grill setup, therefore has the wrong headlight mounts. -Fit MR2 seats -Fit interior bits and plastic / finish assembling dash -New brake pads -New 6kg rear King springs -Install new D2 rear shocks -Install new D2 front shock inserts -Shorten front struts 50 - 60mm -4A-GE 200mm clutch -4A-GE 200mm flywheel -Bigger main fuel line -Bigger external fuel pump -Accelerator Cable -Clutch Cable -MR Intake plenum cut and shut -Install Spigot bearing -RWD water sensor housing -Extractors (getting made up) -Waterpump (swapped from 3A-U) -Thermostat housing (swapped from 3A-U) -Engine mounts (swapped from 3A-U) -Gearbox braces (swapped from 3A-U) -Water pipes (swapped from 3A-U) -Power steering pump (swapped from 3A-U) -Replace front crank seal and whatever other seals need doing -Have 4A-GE wired up -LVVTA Certification (engineered) -Warrant of fitness and Registration There's probably more but I'll add that later.
  23. Got the 4age out of the MR2 this weekend What a bitch of a job. First time I've ever dropped an engine out the bottom of a car before. TADAAA!! Hmmmmmm... bit of a hole where the heart once was.. Needs a re-power SIMSEY POWER I'm hoping to get the 3a-u BACK OUT of the AE70 again next weekend, maybe get the 4age IN also, If I get time.. I get my D2 rear shocks this week too. Although I want to drive it for a while naturally aspirated while I save for turbo stuff, I'm thinking of getting a fully custom intake plenum made up for it, getting it ready for a turbo setup later in the year, instead of doing a cut / shut job on my stock intake. Any thoughts or suggestions?
  24. Just picked up the organ donor... A bit dirty, hoping to have it out by the end of the weekend if I can find the helping hands I need. And if it ain't raining!
  25. Fitting up the front grill & lights, gotta hunt around for the headlight surrounds.. I know they're somewhere in my parts collection.. :P Fitted rear bumper (note wrong endcaps.. :P ) Finally got around to putting fuel cap cover on, although not in this pic lol.
