  1. Okay, that's odd! I thought a smaller head would give more compression? Guess I'll have to get the 5K head repaired. Also does anyone know where to get replacement 5K dished pistons from? Figured I may aswell do it properly now! Thanks.
  2. Hi there, Building up a 5K block and have several heads at my disposal, 3K, 4K and 5K. The 5K head needs to be repaired, so as a cheap solution I want to use either the 3K or 4K head on the 5K block. Will a 3K/4K head bolt onto a 5K block without any hassles? I also want to use the 5K hydraulic lifters and rocker gear, so will they work with a 3K/4K head? Also my 5K block has dished pistons. Will that cause any problems when using a head intended for flat tops? Thanks very much.
  3. Will have to get the spacer and gaskets separately then. Cheers guys
  4. The spacer plate is the plastic bit with a gasket on either side? The one from the 4K fuel pump actually came off in several pieces, I guess they're prone to breaking. I've ordered a full gasket set for the 5K engine, so maybe another spacer plate is included? Thanks
  5. That's a relief! I was unsure, so figured I should find out first. The engine itself is with a mate and it's a LONG drive away, so I did'nt want to get stuck and not have the right parts. Thanks
  6. Just a quick question... I'm rebuilding a 5K but only have a fuel pump off a 4K. Will a 4K fuel pump work on a 5K? Thanks
  7. Thanks guy's. I do know how to work the search function, and have read all the articles before. Guess I just overlooked building my own EFI system. Reckon I'll go to the EFI Hardware site and take it from there. Cheers :lolcry:
  8. Hi everyone, I'm currently rebuilding a 5K and have a standard twin carb set up, but think fuel injection would give better performance. Does anybody know where I can find an EFI set up for it? Thanks very much.
  9. Hmmm, There appears to be a hole for the booster hose but it's on the wrong end, and it's been blocked. There's also a welsh plug sitting where the booster hose usually goes on the other end of the manifold (near the firewall). So therefore I decided to do a "dodgy"... I stuck a hose onto where the PCV line normally goes, as it's literally the ONLY hole on this manifold. The brakes work as they did before and there does'nt appear to be any negative side effects. I then put a little air filter on top of the PCV thingy. Dodgy I know, but it works fine and that's the main thing! Thanks
  10. Hi everyone, Recently put a factory twin carb manifold on my 3K engine, but cannot see where the brake booster hose is supposed to go on the manifold. It appears my old hose is no longer long enough and I may need a different type. Does anybody know where it's meant to go on these things? Thanks
  11. Thanks for the link etc, will try Crane Cam and see what happens. Too bad they are'nt a standard "over the counter" part, seems you can still get everything else for them though! Thanks for the responses everyone, I'll keep looking! Cheers
  12. Hi all, Used the search function but could'nt seem to find much info. I'm after an electronic distributor for my 4K engine. Does anybody know which manufacturers make them? I went into Supercheap Auto and they had no friggin' idea! Thanks
  13. Thanks for that, I'll check them out and see what they can do for me. Hopefully they have a good website for me to look at too. I suppose they could probably do linkage kits too. Cheers
  14. Hi all, Does anyone know a good website or shop (preferably in Adelaide) to get manifolds to suit side draft Webers for a 4K motor? Cheers
  15. Thanks for your reply! That carby is definitely not for me then, I prefer the synchro stuff. Have a mate selling twin side draft Weber's, so think I'll just buy them!
  16. Does anyone know if the butterfly's on a 32/36 Weber open at the same time, or if they're a two stage? Used the search button, could'nt seem to find the answer. Possibly because everyone else knows this already, besides ignorant newbies like me! Thanks
  17. Thanks guys, If mounting everything will be relatively straight forward, then I think it's worthwhile. If the engines are hard to come by I guess I'll just have to be patient! Cheers, and have a Merry Christmas!
  18. Forgive me if this has been asked a million times before... I have a 1976 KE-30 coupe and would like to remove the 3K and replace it with a 2TG. Does anyone know if the 2TG motors are relatively easy to come by and whether it's a straight forward (bolt in) conversion? Thanks
  19. Does anyone know where to source those twin carby 3K-B manifolds from? Also where can I find a performance cam for a 3K? I know this stuff exists, but just can't seem to find them anywhere! Cheers
  20. Maybe a twin carby set up will help? Anyone selling the manifold for one?
  21. Yeah it gets a little confusing! I'm pretty sure the numbers of a taller diff are lower (eg 4:1 to a 3:1), but they are termed as a higher ratio diff. Even only a couple hundred RPM would make a huge difference. Will try changing the diff centre and see what happens. I will loose take off, but then again it'll be able to stay in gear for longer, which will probably make up for it. It's theoretically a balancing act, but for my purposes I think taller gears is the way to go. I always found my gears ran out too early anyway! Should probably work the 3K a little more too. Either way this works out loads cheaper than a new engine and gearbox! Thanks
  22. Thanks for that, will have to give them a call. Yes she's a fairly tidy old girl, mate you should have seen what she looked like before! Picked her up for $500, was orange, rusted and every panel was dented, front and back smashed in... you name it! Been fixing her up slowly over the last couple of years. I'm a Uni student so money is always in short supply! For now was considering changing the diff centre to a higher ratio. Just need something to relax the revs a bit whilst sitting on 110km/h. But you're right, the little K motors are bullet-proof. Have never had any trouble with it. Hehe, yeah the wheels are just standard 15's off a Corona I think. I quite like them, just need to get low profiles on there. Cheers
  23. What would help make the 3K sit better on the highway? I hear about people putting lumpier cams and bigger pistons in them, but I don't know where to source them from. Perhaps even a higher ratio diff would help? Do you know where to get performance parts for the 3K?
  24. Hmmm, Trouble is sitting on highway speeds is a little demanding for the 4 spd 3K engine. I travel long distances often so a 5 spd and a little more grunt would be ideal. The 3K only has extractors, domed sports airfilter and performance coil. Is otherwise standard. There must be somewhere to source a 7K motor and gearbox!! Not sure it's really worth working the 3K.
  25. Hi guys, Anyone know where to get a 7K motor with K50 gearbox in SA? I intend to install one in my KE-30 coupe, which currently only has the little 3K with 4 spd. A name of any wrecker or engine place around Adelaide would be very helpful! Thank you
