lookin good mate, i like those rims
-
Bit more progress, the front is nearly finished. I pressed up two pieces of 3mm the same profile as the corolla control arm 40mm long and welded them in. Then i just had to re drill a couple of holes to suit the new length. Then fitted the rings to take the commodore ball joints and painted em up.
I couldn't get a very good pic of the strut in there because the sun was setting
i stuck the wheels on and the camber is spot on, i have a way bigger choice of rim now which will be good.
The only thing i need to do now is make longer steering arms up then clean up and paint the struts with lowered springs.
Gettin there...

Glad your back into it man, this is an awesome build. Very inspiring

I like this idea, i was gonna do it a while ago. My plan was basically to cut the back off and weld the tailgate back on behind the pillar and make a tray for it. I didnt really look into it to much though but thought it would have looked pretty stock.
+1 for the 1UZ aswell

So i've been doin the maths on the front end a bit more and have decided to scrap the idea of machining the ball joints down. I'm gonna use the corolla control arms which i'll have to make them 40mm longer which be easy enough. Then cut the hole that takes the ball joint bigger to take the ring off the commodore control arms for the ball joint and weld it up. Then i'll just have to get kingswood rotors which will bring the wheels back in 10mm and they should be sitting right.
Today i cut the mounts off the rolla diff and welded them onto the vn diff so thats all done apart from axles which will be done soon.
Tacked up
Ran out of gas so i used the stick welder for it

How bout some 3sge to ke35 mounts?
Yeah mate just need a picture etc to go off, just let me know if your interested.
Cheers, Mick

Been making a bit of progress lately, i got all the panels painted and hung on the car and i also put some blue pearl over the top aswell. I was pretty happy with it being my first paint job.
Here are some pics. I will get some better pics in the sunlight. The pearl really shows up in the sun.
Still got a few bit missing which i'll get new.
Started on the front end suspension and brake upgrade today, i bought a pair of vp commodore struts with v8 brakes measuring 295mm.
The only modification i need to is get a set of vp ball joint and machine the bases down to the same diameter as the rolla ones so they'll fit in the rolla contol arms. The strut tops are the same, the steering arms will line up no worries and the brake lines are the same.
Big size difference
Next i will be shortening a vl disc brake diff and swapping all the bits off the rolla bits over so it bolts in and shortening a tail shaft. So then i'll have the same 5 stud pattern all round, good brake and suspension upgrade.
Then motor....

Bit of an update after ages of not being motivated, finnished wet rubbing the shell today, just a small rust repair to do on the right wheel arch.
I have a question for all the painters out there, my plan with painting the car was to do the door jams and under the boot, then paint the inside of all the panels, re-assemble and then the paint the outside in one hit. any advice on this?
cheers

Picked up another rolla last week.
90.000kms, no oil leaks, reco head, new hoses, fairly good bodywork.
Stock as, all ihave done is pull all the door moulds of cos it was missing a couple.
Got it with rego for 500 bucks, tell me what you thimk and maybe what its worth.
Also what i should do with it, i was thinking lower it and put some whitewalls on there.
Cheers

this is gona be one nice... and different... ke30, if you do the vn v6, consider running a turbo setup, for the v6 they are relatively straight forward and cheap, you wont need to run much boost, say 5 or 6 pound, in a ke30 as the torque alone will be enough on the street for a ke30... happy time :)
thanks man, turbo sounds like a good plan :jamie:
its gonna be dangerous

It's never been done before, you will be the first. But hey, if you do get around to completing the conversion could you please post up some info for me, so that I can use the search function and find out more about it. That'd be much appreciated as I really want to put a Commodore engine in my little Rolla.
Thanks in advance,
Sam.
Whats with the sarcasm? i used the search function and wanted more info. I'm just tryin to learn as much as i can before i pull anything to bits
1Uzfe Into Ke 20
in Engine Conversions
Posted
In vic its 4x the weight of ur car. In standard form. I looked into this conversion for my ke30.
On the rego label vic roads has them recorded at 1100kg when they're only 900ish. So technically i could've got it engineered but i decided against it as it is a costly conversion.
