  1. OK Solved... Sorry to take so long to get back here and write a report. Basically it had two mechanics and an auto electrician stumped for another two months. Solution... No direct positive feed from the battery to the injectors. However it was not as simple as checking the wiring diagram. There was a whole wire missing from the loom into the ECU. It happened to be found by accident very late one evening in almost frustration. Everything appeared correct as according to 5 different wiring diagrams that covered the early models. Including the ones that the auto electrician had. Seems that the car was not "running" when they took her to the wrecking yard in the first place. So very big thank you to everyone here that contributed. Yes it ended up being wiring. And a very special thanks to Steve at Pharley's Spares and Repairs and his mate Paul for taking the time to help a rookie out and not charging what I should have been charged. Kind regards Moses
  2. And then she dies again. Sorry I don't post too frequent. Have been having a brilliant time driving my wagon. Unfortunately friday week ago in the bad rain. She stepped out on me at 95 kph on the highway from QBN to Bungo. Just where it comes to the overtaking lane. Three things to be very thankful for. 1: no one was coming the other way at the time. 2: The guy I was overtaking kept going and the guy behind me saw what was happening and stopped. 3: I was not injured and did not roll the car. Car is not badly damaged but needs the drivers rear quarter pulled out and the tail lights replaced. With rego due on this coming friday I just don't have any cash left to fix her again. So she is being parked on the farm and efforts will now go into the Coupe properly. Moses P.S anyone going to the Hillclimb on Sunday 31/10?
  3. IT'S ALIVE!! She is now up and running. Turns out there was a complete wire missing out of the loom. But when checking the wiring diagrams everything appeared as it should. Who would a thought there is 2 (TWO) power wires for the injectors. One doesn't even go to the injectors!!! Even had a master auto electrician stumped for 6 weeks and he manages a couple of 4AGE adapted race cars. Now to finish tidying her up for rego due at the end of this month. Moses
  4. Trev: Yeah but they were the same injectors that went back in (colour that is ) Thatdude: Yeah I tripled checked that one. I have also had the mechanic double check it too!! But thanks
  5. Hey everyone, Just wanted to give you all an update on my little beast. She is still not running 100% yet however I have been introduced to a guy who is a whiz with 4AGE's. Have got him stumped when we unplugged an injector and the car idle nearly perfectly and revved correctly. Plugged it back in and it died instantly. Tried this on all four injectors and have the same results. Have out in different injectors and now we can start the car with one unplugged but it will run fine now with all four plugged in. NO CHANGES TO ANYTHING EXCEPT THE INJECTORS!!! Got him stumped for an explanation so with his help we are slowly going over absolutely everything and step by step eliminating anything that may be problematic. We may have proper life in the next couple of weeks and then I can finally get some pics after she has a wash. I will write a better report when we have finalized everything and let you know in detail what we found. Thank you again to everyone that has helped from this forum. Your ideas and tricks have been very helpful in eliminating different parts along the way. Regards Moses
  6. Ok Have calibrated the TPS an also got a second one to clarify. Has not fixed the problem. Scoobzd: Brand new pump, brand new efi inline filter so double check and made sure the filter was in the right direction. Parrot: Yes the Tvis has been connected but don't have a vacuum test kit to check for leaks. Also have a new MAP on its way from the UK Trev: Thanks mate. Yeah it is in the manual so I won't need the scan but thanks. If the new MAP Sensor doesn't change things I will have to take her to a mechanic friend and leave it with him for a few day's and see if he comes up with anything. Thanks everyone.. I have tried to listen and learn as best I can. I love this little beast and it will not beat me!! She will run soon and then become the family wagon she should be. Cheers Moses
  7. Thanks Parrot. I have already been using the diagnostic manual... It has been a fantastic help. Is there a way to "re-set" the TPS? We unplugged it and the car seemed to idle a lot better so yes I think at last we are coming to the end. Now need to find a second TPS to try and see if that fixes the problem. Cheers Moses
  8. Hi everyone, Have been trying to do a conversion in a AE71 wagon to the 4-AGE engine. I got a donor engine from an AE82 (1987) Red top Big port engine from what I understand. Here is the story so far. We have got the wiring and everything in place and looks like it is all running correctly. Every test we have done indicates continuity, voltage and earthing are correct. We have injector pulse and ignition. Fuel delivery up to the engine is running fine at correct pressures. Problem: It will not increase the fuel mixture and run correctly i.e add throttle and it dies instantly. :) :D :blinks: Starts on cold start injectors... runs for about ten seconds and then stops. If you try to add throttle it dies instantly. Immobilizer has been removed from the car. HAVE checked the injectors. They deliver fuel with no blockages. We took them out of the car and connected straight to a VL fuel pump. 50ml in ten seconds for each injector. A second ECU same problem. Neither ECU gives an error code to indicate MAP or TPS problems. A second MAP sensor still no change. Also no change if you disconnect the MAP sensor. Bought an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator so that the right fuel pressure is delivered. Increase this all the way to 100psi and still gave the same problem. Have no idea what to do next. Compression test is fine. Leak test no problems. Water temp Sensor appears to be in the correct Ohms readings. I have had a race engineer take a look and all he could confirm was it was definitely NOT INCREASING the fuel mixture. He checked the electrics and confirmed everything is running as it should. He showed us a trick of disconnecting the air filter and spraying fuel directly into the T/B we can run the car this way but it still does not increase the RPM when the throttle is cracked. Did it like this to bring temp's up to normal. Have also drained the fuel and put in brand new 98 (Mobile 8000) into the tank so I know we have clean fuel. Short of taking it to a mechanic and getting told the same thing that we already know. I thought I would try here again. Does anyone have any ideas as we are completely out. :blinks: :bash: :bash:
  9. Have confirmed injector pulse now. Had a friend come and have a look with his awesome piece of machinery (a very expensive version of a voltmeter.) He connected it to the injectors and got pulse readings... Connected to different points in the electrical system and confirmed everything appears to be working fine. However... Car is still; not running properly. His suggestion is that it is fuel related somewhere... So here goes on what we have checked in the system Fuel Pump... Definitely a VL pump even bought a second hand one just in case I had the low pressure one and it didn't change the problem. Fuel filter... Inline EFI and checked it is the right way... Fuel... bought fresh fuel drained the tank and put in brand new fuel... Manifold pressure... Re-checked and re-positioned the Vacuum hoses... I don't have a vacuum pressure test so I am not sure if this is at the correct pressure... It is a MAP sensor and we have tried two... Bought a new Fuel Pressure Regulator... It will arrive on Thursday with the ability to adjust pressure and gauge attached. It is definitely running LEAN... we took the air filter off the front of the throttle body and squirted fuel directly into the system. We can get the car to run but still no change in the system. We ran the car for about 15 minutes to bring up the temperatures and nothing changed in what it is doing... will have to wait till Thursday to see if we can get a result. Problem is now that we can get everything working as it should in the electrical department. Definitely too LEAN in fuel and not sure how to bring that up. Thanks again to everyone how has responded in anyway... Your help is very appreciated. TREV: I have the 4-AGE Diagnostic manual I found online... it has been very helpful for everything else but not this one... Cheers Moses
  10. Thanks Trev. Fuel delivery in through the front of the fuel rail out through the regulator. Check. Fuel pump... Check and Fuel filter (efi in line ) Check. Bought second ECU thinking that was the problem initially and same result. (unlikely to have two faulty ecu's but I know it can happen. Will check the cold start injector circuit today... Cheers and thanks heaps Moses
  11. OK. This is really starting to piss me off!!! The saga is continuing and it has stumped many people I have spoken too. Here is the list we are at so far. Have no error responses from the ECU now. Igniter is working and we can hear the pulse through the old Screw driver check Fuel Pressure check has confirmed pressures however the pressure is an average 10 psi higher than factory (probably due to an after market VL fuel pump) Timing has been confirmed correct with a timing light We can get the car started but when the cold start injector stops the car dies. We cannot seem to get the throttle to bring the car up either. It seems as though there is a fuel starvation problem but we cannot work out why. We have tried two MAP Sensors and they have not fixed the problem. We have checked wiring and everything comes back as you would expect. We have also checked the TPS and it appears to read correctly according to the test page. So why won't the bastard start? Has anyone got any ideas on what they have tried. and yes I have tried Google and it revealed a few people with the same problem but no hits on how to fix it. Even tried the Diagnostic Check Book from Toyota and it hasn't helped. Moses
  12. Johnie, Also speak to Andrew or Ray at NSW Bearing Supplies in Mitchell 6255-5422. Hoskins st opposite the back side of the cemetery. I used to work for him in Sydney and then after I left he moved back home to Canberra and opened the branch here. Great guy and really knows and loves his cars. (Races a charade in Rally) Tell him Ben sent you in and that he should look after you for knowing such a bastard!! And that goes for anyone else. Cheers Ben aka Moses33
