  1. gday i have a brand spankin rebuilt 3k with a rebuilt standard 3k carb with 5k primary and secondary jets freshly kitted, little cam and a full 2" with extractors, anyways its been running high on idle, and ive just had the exhaust done so i want to tune the motor properly. I have a dodgy monsta tacho thats reading 1800-2000rpm at idle but it sounds round1300-1500 i've set the timing with timing light around 10-12degrees, but when i go to drop the idle of the motor down under a1000 it runs for around 10secs and then drops revs and wants to die, i need the car to hold a steady idle but i don't think it needs to be at over 1000. anyone out there with a few tricks or something i should be looking out for, like slip or incorrect alignment of the notch on the harmonic balancer or could it be a carby, float level, dodgy dizzy or jetting problem??? anyone with any advice would be great, but if someones handy with the k motors with the right tuning tools and wants some cash to look at it, or can recommend a good gas analysier/tuning shop for shitty little carbs would be good, i can travel anywhere round brizzy, i just want the car sorted so it can be run in properly and driven to be enjoyed not running high on idle.cheers for the read
  2. changed the jets new kit bolted her on and took it for a drive definatley a big improvement could be the clean carby but the power and driveablitiy was much better
  3. hey lads called repco and the fuel miser rebuild kit an-107 suits from 72 onwards, so I'm rekitting my 3k carb in about an hour at work, just ripped the jets out of a 5k they are 108 primary 153 secondary. The 3k are 100 primary and 147 secondary. If i put the 5k jets in I'm assuming no ill affects other than running richer biut should i change to the 5k power valve and idle jet aswell or keep the 3k ones as is? Anyone run a 3k carb with 5k jets and how did it go'? Cheers
  4. yeah man i know bout the tag the bloke from auto one said it was no use to him at all. He had an old carb kit and a new one carb kit I'm guessing 3k and 4k. If i have the 4k rebuild kit can i use it on a 3k... Someone must have kitted a standard carb before
  5. yeah man i know bout the tag the bloke from auto one said it was no use to him at all. He had an old carb kit and a new one carb kit I'm guessing 3k and 4k. If i have the 4k rebuild kit can i use it on a 3k... Someone must have kitted a standard carb before
  6. hey guys picked up a carby kit to rebuild my 3k carby, it doesnt have a vaccum diaprahm or the 1inch pipe that looks to run off the side like some of the 4ks ive seen. The kit is a AN-107 fuel miser set. Will this kit be sufficent for my carb has anyone used it before? Any tips with jets i remember superjamie saying he lathed out the primary throat anyone had luck with that? Cheers lads
  7. hey hey probably keep pestering u guys as i go ive got a rebuilt 3k just looked at the strainer and its bit shorter by a 1/2inch than a 4k 5k unit, it doesnt rub on the sump just wondering if i should keep the 3k unit or the lower pickup on the 4k. The 4k has a much finer mesh on the pickup as well are these interchangeable? Also whos had luck with the size of washers in the cup/split pin end of the pump i have some 1.5mm 2mm and 1mm washers just wanna know what i should run i think superjaime said he ran a 2mm thanks fellas and sorry bout constant messages cheers
  8. i got a few flywheels sitting around 3k and 4k gonna put a 5spd behind my 3k ke35 just wondering i was talking to a bloke bout corollas and he told me the motors respond really well to a lightened fly are the 3k and 4k the same weight and if i machined it how much weight would u take off? Anyone on here running a lightened fly and whats the weight
  9. thanks heaps for the quick response mate i should be getting that clutch today off my mate at trade price the k50 is from a ke70 going behind a 3k in a ke35 should go off without a hitch by the sounds of it. Thanks again
  10. hey lads need some quick info as I'm buying a 4k clutch today i have a 3k flywheel that has a fresh face and has been machined, i have a k50 sitting at home and a fresh 3k motor. My question is will i have any dramas mating a new 4/5k clutch to my 3k flywheel or do i need to put a 4k flywheel on to suit the clutch? I intend on running a 5k eventually. Also any dramas with fitting the k50 gearbox crossmember to where the k40 sat i understand ill have to cut the tunnel to fit the shifter. Cheers
  11. cheers mate, should i block off the one running on the right hand side or where do i run that
  12. anybody??? if someones got a 3k can u just tell me what the dizzy runs to on the carby so i know its advancing
  13. gday lads hows it all goin. messing round with me missus corolla and found the vacuum line had been resting on the exhaust manifold and melted it through, found one had fallen off the temp sender/thing off the thermostat and one had split right up next to the carby, so my question is... ive found 2 lines from the carby running vacuum, one just off the carby under the fuel line, and one just above the manifold on the carb(this one seems much stronger in vacuum) ive bypassed the shit off the thermostat because i can't see its purpose, i have one line from the carbon canister running above the air/fuel mixture, and i've used the t-piece to run both other vacuum lines to the dizzy any help will be good because i know i need to run vacuum to advance the dizzy but I'm just guessin at the moment cheers
  14. hey got my 4k apart gonna get new pistons this week its either flat top or dished, I'm going the flat tops, assuming they'l give me a higher compression ratio, I'm getting my 4k done up and i need to know whether or not someone has had there head skimmed it suit 3k specs, or to bump up the compression, and what it was skimmed to, to get that compression, I'm aiming at around 9.5:1, 10:1
  15. good man, thanks for that mate, i can keep going with the overhaul
  16. that would be good if u could find out mate, I'm thinking of playing round with different sized secondary chokes to see what works out i guess its just trial and error
  17. hey lads I'm doing up my 4k and i need to find out which of the blocks in the "How to build a tough k motor" forum, and ive got this paragraph from it> There are also two different types of 4K block, one has three very noticeable ribs below the manifold side welsch plugs, just like a 3K if you can have a look at one. The other has small ribs and a large flat area. The unribbed block is far weaker, if you have one of them, scrap it. any ways before i go further can anyone tell me that if my block is this ribbed stronger block or not???
  18. i bought a overrated ke35, handed the cash over, and the guy says as I'm ready for my 1hr 1/2 drive home, OH by the way its been running a bit hot on hills but its had a flush it should be alright. drove it home in the middle of summer with the heater trying to bypass some heat i was f@$kin spewing. Used full bottle of Mukowit(good shit) for the flush, did the radiator cap, thermosat, got another water pump cause mine looked a little dodgy, flushed again, good coolant. Heated up again... Did a compression test to make sure i wasnt leaking into water jackets or anything, all seemd good. Got a quote on a radiator flush.$80 put it in,ready that arvo, got the reciept and it was 80% blocked. Car hasnt had an issue since runs real cool. The car had done 39000kms probably driving to church and back, but if u keep gettin problems with heating, get the radiator done and you should be good.
  19. hey guys i gotta pull the 3k out of the car cause its blowing smoke, and using too much oil. I have a 4k out of a ke70, complete. And the 3k in the car, complete. I'm gonna rebuild the bottom end of the 4k, with new pistons, bearings, rings, bore and hone, get a balance, regrind cam and face lifters. I found a 3k at the wreckers with no timing case, just head and bottom end, i was thinking of getting the head and putting it on the 4k, or just use the one in the car now, or is it just worth getting the 4k decked, i can do everything i need to the 4k motor out the car, and put it in with ease. i guess main question is, can i get the 4k head decked to 3k head specs(Compression ratio) or should i use the 3k head? id prefer to have everything built and ready to just drop in, so the car isnt off the road for too long.
  20. hey guys I'm playing round with this 3k carby, I'm gonna go and get some 4k jets today or tomorrow. i got the middle piece of the carby and i have forced the venturi chokes out of it. the primary venturi is 19mm and the secondary is 24mm. now both the ports on the carby base are 28mm. What my idea is to see if theres any larger aisan carbs out there with the same bored 28mm ports, but run larger sized venturi chokes, letting more air,and fuel through the passage. I was thinkin of seeing if there was say a 20 or 21mm for primary, and a 26mm for secondary. i would jet it to suit Is this worth tryin or should i just put another carby on it. Has anyone played round with the venturis?
  21. its sounds more than likely that its a problem with the flux capacitor
  22. looked there many a time, just trying to clarify whether its common, or someone has done it before, i assumed there the same size, different rods, and the pistons in the 3k are better than the 4k ones cheers
  23. from what ive read on the tough k series motor fAQ the 3k pistons are better than the repco 4k pistons. Am i right in my thinking that if i got a reasonable block, with pistons that aren't undersized or worn, i can use these in a 4k block???
  24. thought it was worth asking, cause i was quoted"take the motor out" $880. its almost 30yr old 1500cc pushrod motor.... ill be right, thought it'd be cheaper than that
  25. what do u guys reckon a 5k is worth, all complete minus the gearbox?
