If I may hijack this thread a tad..
13x8 ET4, 175/50-13, how does that sound?

I have no experience with KE55s.. However, if the axle is similar to those found on KE70s, or if you can modify a KE70 axle to fit, you can get a 100% progressive locking TRD diff for an AE86, or a stock AE86 diff which as far as I remember has got atleast some locking.
Having say a 40% locked diff or a progressive locking one (expensive) is great for sliding about. What sort of engine will you be going with? If you've got a stock 3 or 4K, or hell even a 2T, you don't even have to THINK about the diff until you've got more power.

is your car Left hand drive? ie do you have the steering column in the way?
i think from memory i mananged to monouver it out the bottom.
it doesnt come out the front?
Yeah it hits the steering column joint when trying to get it out from the back :D

I've got the started removed from the bellhousing, my only problem is that it's so tight around there that I can't physically get the starter out of the bay! Do you need to drop the subframe/engine in order to get the starter out? Or do you perhaps remove the exhaust? Did you guys get it out from the top or the bottom?

Yo.. Just wondered how you guys usually go on about removing the starter? Do you remove it from the top or the bottom? Do you remove anything else? I have a left hooker so the intake, carb, intake mani and exhaust mani sits on the engine, the brake booster and pedal box sits on the firewall and it makes it really cramped in there :D

The death of a 4K is in other words as spectacular as the experience of accelerating a 4K car itself :P
They use a hell of a lot of oil.. I always had to top up mine a litre between 3 and 5k km..

Doesn't look like a lot of serious rust though, surface rust bar the lower portion of the pass. door I guess from looking at those pics.
But f@$k.. A good spot of floor and frame rail welding if needed, an engine, a set of coilovers and wheels and this car would be f@$king awesome. I hate ratlook when it's forced but this would be just so right to leave as-is :laff:

I dunno if any of you remember this project at all.. I can't recall exactly what happened, a lack of motivation and better things to do I guess. Lost what was important to me (building cars) but found some new things in life I realised was worth pursuing.. :laff: Moved back to Oslo in May and the car is still located in the southern part of Norway. I've found a place to store/work on it now though, so I hope we can get the car collected this week..
As it was after I got it out from the workshop it called home for 9 months:
And into the new shed, where my Charade was chilling this winter. Like I said, hope to dig the KE70 out of that cave this week ;)

Yeah, so wrong on many levels. Mostly because it's an old car, I don't like it when people try to modernise them. Like it's said before here, periodically correct mods are winnar.
This was borderline for me, especially considering that white 'Targa' lettering, but overall I think it looked pretty good:

and theres a big difference between a rusty shitty old corolla and some of those genuine cars posted in this thread. at the end of the day, if your driving a piece of shit corolla, and it looks like a piece of shit corolla, 99% of people are going to think nothing more than, look at that pauper, he really could do with a new car...
There is only one rusty Rolla that looks really cool.. It's from Japan, driftcar, quad lights, silver car with lots of battle scars and rust, it's awesome. Would never call it a rat rod though. Oh yeah, and the white one is a piece of shit Rolla, that was my point.....

the term "rat rod" is overused and hackneyed. The concept of hitting a good paintjob with steel wool is stupid. Painting faux patina on sucks.
I love the traditional rods, forties and fifties lake style rods; flat black and flat oxide red BUT THEY ARE NOT RAT RODS!
I don't roll with the contrived look.
Don't mind an authentic rusty body dropped on and never painted, that's all good. But so many people just try too hard.
You summed up my thoughts perfectly.
Slamming an 80 year car on OG but worn paint and throwing in a V8 and restoring the mechanics is cool. The paint has patina. Building a hot rod and painting it flat black is equally nice, but it doesn't have patina - it's still brand new paint, albeit flat.
It reminds me of another term I hate, ratlook. How the f@$k can grinding down your paint on selected areas of a car and throwing on a roof rack be considered cool? This is already confused with the original post in the first reply. I hate seeing 20 year old cars with as much shit possible on the roof and a rusted bonnet or whatever else you might find 'creative'. Someone managed to say I had done well in building a ratlook car with this, I got so annoyed by that...

hmm well you should send the rest to me!also does that bonnet have a chrome edge along the front of it? or is it part of the headlights/grill.
simliar to the chrome edge along the bottom, that part of the headlights/grill or is it part of the apron panel down there.
It's not off topic, it's a good question as I believe there are differences here from the early cars :huh: The lower chrome strip sits on the grill, it continues around the headlight surround (housing the parking lights) and meets a strip on the bonnet. I researched this when buying the 4-lamps and grill and realised I needed a new bonnet to not have a double chrome strip :happy:
