COROLLAANDY Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Gday all just chasing some info from you AE freaks. I just bought a 92 AE92 twin cam with a stuffed clutch and have a AE82 hatch sitting here for bits and would like to know if the box and clutch are interchangeable?? Havent done a FWD clutch yet but I'm sure theyre the same as all other Corolla jobs, easy when youve done a couple. Cheers, Andy. Quote
Old-Skool-Rolla Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 ok, if they are both 4AGE motors, than the gearboxes will both be the C52 5 speed. The gearbox it self should go in no worries, HOWEVER, the flywheels are both different sizes between the AE82 (bigport) and the AE92 (smallport) motors. I think the measurement are around 425mm vs 415mm, but i realy wouldnt know. Do a quik search on Twincam.org and you will find out soon enuff :y: The gearboxs should be fully interchangable, aslong as you keep the appropriate flywheel, ie. if you put the AE82 g/box onto the AE92, makesure you keep the AE92 fly wjheel NOT the AE82 one :P Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 flywheels arnt an issue use the clutch to suit the flywheel easy as when swapping boxes check the starter motor bulges. if you have a one bulge and try and fit a two bulge it may interfere with the water pipes Quote
COROLLAANDY Posted October 15, 2006 Author Report Posted October 15, 2006 OK what I've got is an 87 hatch with a 4A single cam and a 92 Seca twin cam. Can I take the clutch out of the hatch and put it in the Seca or is a twin cam clutch different to the earlier single cam clutches?? I havent played with AE mechanicals yet. Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 i THINK so. but i can't recall the size of the 4a flywheel for the effort involved just get a new clutch. they are cheap and a 2nd hand clucth is just silly Quote
quadeyquade Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) By 4ac single cam you mean 4AC? if so then it has a 6 bolt flywheel and is like a 200mm clutch, while the ae92 will have a 212mm or 215mm clutch and 8 bolts on the flywheel. So I don't think you can interchange them. I think that's answering the question lol. shit just realised its an ancient thread... oops lol Edited October 27, 2008 by quadeyquade Quote
