Jason Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 I'm about 1/2 way through my twin throttle body setup in my gze, but all the time ive wondered how am i going to control bother TB at once, i really don't want to go electronic (PWM and servos...), iv thought of using those cable splitter you get on bikes, but the mechanism is quite tight. Ive seen a few twin TB gze around but i could never figure out how they do it? Idear, suggestions? J PS the 2nd one goes at the arrow Quote
Des Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 All i can suggest is the bike method of splitting it up, 2 main problems with them is the are tight and the can pop and if they were in a car and popped no more driving. Quote
Jason Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 yeah thats what i though..... :P looks like some J-spec custom work :D Quote
Jason Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) Been doing some thinking and i came up with this, what you all think? - in terms of neatness, I'm comparing it to a carby linkage :P Bottom circles are cable attachments, the smaller ones above are little wheels to keep the cable going straight. It would be really easy to ajust if one TB closes faster than another by adjusting the pivot point of one. Edited June 6, 2007 by Jason Quote
Redwarf Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Have you thought about a mechanical system? Quote
Jason Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 it briefly crossed my mind, but not only are the TB perendiculear, when its going to be on there, the wheel of the one of the manifold is facing the motor Quote
ancullen Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Sorry to get slightly off track, but am I correct in assuming that you're going to have two throttle in line in the system - one before the supercharger, on after on the intake manifold? If so, what is the point of such a setup? Is it to reduce lag by having boosted air between the sc and the throttle on the intake manifold? Or have I misunderstood the setup? Quote
Jason Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 reduce idle hunt, and reduce amount of intake track after the throttle, the current setup is laggy and unresponsive. Quote
ancullen Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 (edited) Couldn't you just have two seperate throttle cables, both linked to the accelerator? They're both only going to move as far as you move the accelerator anyway. Edited June 7, 2007 by ancullen Quote
Jason Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 well that the idear, but doing that is a little harder then it seems, IF the wheels of the TB's are different sizes i will have to do it my way, as removing the wheel is almost impossible because of the way they attaches the butterfly. You also can not just put to cables coming from the pedal, as it would involve some tedious firewall drilling and mucking around, which i really really don't feel like doing. When i was 1st desingned the setup i was going to go 20v butterflys but it would be even harder due to clearances Quote
ancullen Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 You'd have clearance issues with 20v throttles? Where? Plenum to bonnet, or firewall to throttles/plenum? I presume you've had to relocate the supercharger so it sits lower to go below the bigport intake, and you would have had to have done the same with 20v throttles anyway. Quote
Jason Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 well, i would have to lower it even more, atm its very close to chasis rail, then i would have to have gone custom plenum to fit it between the throttle and the SC, also if you sit the charger lower it hits the engine mount, and if you move it fowrd it hits the mount, in order to put 20v TB in you would have to move it foward to the next belt - then you need to do something about the smaller drive wheel so the supercharger runs faster :P Quote
ancullen Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Why do you need to move the supercharger forward with 20v throttles? Are you thinking of using the old TechnoToyTuning adaptor that turns the throttles upside down to mount them? Apparently the new adaptor has the throttles the right way up, therefore giving better clearance. The other option would be to angle the throttle upwards so they clear the blower properly. Or if you set it up the way you mentioned, moving the SC forward and running it off the accessories pulley, you could switch the SC pulley to a Falcon aircon type, which is only about 95mm diameter. The accessories pulley is roughly 135mm diameter, so you'd be turning the SC at 1.42 times engine speed, which is plenty quick enough. Quote
Jason Posted June 8, 2007 Author Report Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) i don't know anything about the techonotoytuning, but with moving the supercharger around, is a f@$kload of custom work. I got away with just being able to space the bottom mount out (clear manifold and engine mount) and make up some top brackets, when you start moving it fowars you have to make up your own mounts..
