Beejae82 Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 (edited) I've upgraded from my AE82 4AC CS sedan P.O.S to this little beauty. Bought in Newcastle a few weeks ago, it was in the June floods. Didn't run and the problem was slightly unknown but came down to the alternator and/or starter motor. Water came up close to the stereo inside the car, which has caused a bit of surface rust, it will have rust protection carried out in the coming weeks to stop any more problems Vehicle: 1990 Series I Toyota Corolla AE93 SX Hatch. Engine: AW11 MR2 4agze, standard boost and tmic, Microtech LT8s ECU. Mods: 2" mandrel mild steel exhaust, rear performance muffler, 3"ish tip and pod filter at the moment. (Airbox bought off ebay is in the post) Driveline: standard SX 5 speed Brakes: standard series I front and rear disks. Suspension: Standard SX struts and King Springs superlows (the car isn't going anywhere at the moment, so it allows me to check for and fix any fouling) Wheels: 17x7 BSA mags and 205/40x17 silverstones on the front & 215/40x17 silverstones on the rear. Rear mags have been sprayed, fronts are in the process. Shifted to the shed: 15X6.5 6 spoke mags with 195/50x15 kingstars (generic Hankook BTW) on the front and Bridgestone Potenza G3s on the rear on the back. Exterior: Door strips removed, Red Rollaclub.com sticker to come) Interior: JVC headunit and 2 Lightning Audio 12''s to be installed one the car has been cleaned up Future changes include: KYB struts, CAI improvement, source some tinted and/or pinstriped Nova tail lights, 15-20% black window tint, front and rear splits, new carpet....the list goes on. ouchy rust the right side upper hatch sill the left side upper hatch sill left side rear corner and the spare wheel well cleaned up all the wheel arches, they were full of mud, cob webs and brake dust, will respray with deadener eventually yesterday i stripped the rear out totally and dealt with crap like this, the joys of a new car. in the process of rigging up the proper CAI, and a friend is going to replicate it in stainless steel and TIG it up for me... 15s along side the 17s i am currently stripping the chrome off and respraying matte black with a polished lip. Its pretty basic at the moment, funds and time shortages have stunted improvements, i haven't managed to do much at the moment with it because I'm attempting to source another alternator (found the problem) and do a rebuild on the old one. P.s I'm not too good at professional layout so just bare with it. Feedback and improvements appreciated. Edited November 19, 2007 by Beejae82 Quote
Pure-SX Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Looking good mate, will be a nice project, can't wait to see future mods. Big things on the way for my ae82 sedan though :). Quote
wasfishing Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Nice ride i like the bonnet scoop i got a aw11 4agze and i can usally get about 8L/100km depending on how i drive Quote
Beejae82 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Report Posted September 26, 2007 Thanks guys, the scoop gives a bit of a clue that it aint just a stocker(115hp atw at the moment-not quite stock but still a far bit to go), at first I thought the scoop was the original ae101 piece but it seems a bit flatter and this one is fiblreglass I don't plan on driving it much until I get it leaned out (and a new alternator as well) just got a quote of $110 for a replacement from imlachs in clayton, VIC Quote
Pure-SX Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 sif sell the ae82 sedan :). Should be a weapon once finished/fixed. I do like the scoop. It does look flatter then the ae101 scoop though Quote
Beejae82 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Report Posted September 26, 2007 The sedans gone to car hell, it wasn't good/clean enough for heaven lol Quote
Pure-SX Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 haha fair enough. My sedan is still alive. Allthough I have about 2000 worth of suspension/CV shafts to replace lol. Quote
Beejae82 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Report Posted September 26, 2007 Yeah that's the thing with 20 year old cars, you know its going to cost a few pennies to get nice and crisp like a new car, yours is worth it though and good luck with the suspension upgrade, I still can't decide on lows or superlows in the SX, superlows were alright in the sedan but I have a feeling this one may drop too far to be practical, will just have to do a bit of trial and error fitment Quote
Beejae82 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Small update... *Cleaned up residue and crap from where the sidestrips once resided, stained so much not even wax&grease remover can do its job properly. (the strips has faded pink over time) *Stripped front end, pulled front bar apart and cleaned it up. Quote
Beejae82 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 The oil cooler was left in the front but it isnt connected to the sump/filter. there was crap everywhere and the cooler was still full of oil 3 years after the conversion. gave it a clean up Then stupid me used the butt of a large screwdriver to tap the loose rust out from under the corners of the rear glass and then.....POP and then i had no rear glass, all over in under a second, which in a way was good because i could then see the full extent of the rust and after a brush up with the wire wheel on the drill this is what the damage is... so now i need a new boot and i think the easiest thing at the moment is just settle for a cheap local cs/csi boot with no rust and do whats neccesary to fit the SX spoiler (might even spray it black before putting it on) Quote
Beejae82 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 *stripped interior and cleaned dirt and mud from floods, hosed off the carpet, found possible wiring issues with the ecu (need help on that one - loco!) *stripped dash and disassembled tacho cluster and gave a clean (will spray the black gauge cover piece matte red soon) *will be reverting to 14" steelies after I realised the rear wheels are only held on by 3 threads of the wheel nuts as a result of the spacers to allow the tyres to clear the struts *Stripped passenger seat(drivers to follow) cleaned it up and wrapped up a wurth red throw over cover (used to protect customers cars when driven) but they match the paint and the planned colour coding, so they come up good when put back into the car. *Removed door cards and cleaned out dirt and crap *Added a bottle of Fortron "Lifter Free" to crankcase and allowing it to run through for a few thousand Ks to clean it out, then follow up with oil change (*waiting for someone to tell me this wasn't a good idea lol*) cleaning up the wheel arches, they were full of mud, cob webs and brake dust, will respray with deadener eventually before after Interior shots Quote
Beejae82 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 spent 2 days removing, cleaning, sandblasting and painting bits and pieces from the engine bay including the strut brace, ignitor brackets, carbon canister and the nuts , bolts and screws that belong to them, will get better as I do more. Beejae82 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 I couldnt fight the urge to test out the superlow stance (actually super super low in the rear) and maybe its because of the shot struts but the drivers side rear sits an inch lower that the other side and i'm surprised that the superlows in the front only dropped it by maybe 2 inches max(considering the extra weight from the gze, but then its only a C52 g/b) (sorry about the blurriness but you can see the height drop, but i don't like the way its lower in the rear) I'll be slotting in some new KYBs, whiteline and bushes some time soon from Brad (cheaper prices including postage than the local "trade prices") That's it for now Quote
Beejae82 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Here comes another one... update that is scored 3 17s off my uncle in-law for nothing, just had to try and find a forth one, so i rang BSA wheels (i tell you being deaf makes it hard to understand Chinese people) and they had one left over, which they insisted was brand new and proceeded to charge me $236 plus $25 freight. when i get it the next day i noticed that tyres have been mounted to it because the chrome top coat has flaked off everywhere and the 4/114.4 stud holes were covered in surface rust and same with the mounting face of the rim. not happy Jan, any way 4 rims for the price of 1 (tyres to come at cost price hehe) stripping the chrome (looks painful) painting matte black fast forward and one is done looks sweet i reckon the rim on my car before it was painted. (stripped to bare metal_still looked better than crappy chrome IMO) and so i get home from town/work at 7 and convince myself i must fit it up tonight (in not much light) and here it is (btw my wheels are too big with the current suspension in, theres only an inch of travel before scraping. That is all.... Quote
Pure-SX Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) Lol been hard at work ay, I have bought all that is need for the suspension overhaul for the sedan, new kyb shocks with new king lows, am getting front and rear whiteline swaybars and strut braces. My front inner guards are looking a little like your before pic, exept it aint grease and brake dust, CV has almost exploded lol. Looking good mate, I will have to update my members thread, probably just start a new one. The turbo build should be starting quite soon hopefully.
