japlish Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 hello, a friend and I went and picked up his ke70 on the weekend, it had some problems starting so we went and got a new coil and new dist cap, it already had new spark plugs too. anyway we eventually got it started (the points were replaced but not set correctly) and it was all good, on the way to a mates place it was pinging like crazy when you tried to go a little fast then normal so we checked the timing and it was on like 30* btdc!! i tried to bring it back to around 8 or 10 but it would die at around 15? whats goin on? DearmanKE Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 how high is it idleing when its on 30btdc ? if its idleing at like over 1.5k (like mine does) then that wont be acurate and compareable to stock which is 8 just bring it back bit by bit until it doesnt ping anymore, even if its still way over 8, but i guess thats only relevent if u have a high idle? do you? you can turn it down on the carby then check your timeing again, it should be a little less crazy, but yeah, quick fix, retard timeing by ear a little, test, repeat, until it doesnt ping Quote

DearmanKE Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 yeah with my idle i run approximatly 25 btdc i think or it could be closer to 20 but yeh, coz it idles so high its way different coz of the advance mechanism Quote
Clapped out Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 (edited) It's always a MUST to disconnect the vaccum advance (vaccum hose) to the dissy when timing an engine, gives a more accurate reading, cheers phatke30! Edited April 15, 2008 by phatke30 Quote
