Ae101 Engine Problem

I currently have a 95 corolla rv, for some odd reason it wastes too much oil, it doesnt smoke from the exhaust and it doesnt leak, i thought it was the valve stem cells, but its still doing the same thing even after i done the head on it.

 

just wondering if anyone has heard of such a problem and what the solution is.

You sure your not leaving puddles of oil around the place ? A stuffed gasket. Like the rear seal on the block is gone. Could be one reason.

 

Another is to ask a mechanic to do a "leak-down test". Basically an air compressor is hooked up to a cylinder and then the said cylinder is compressed with air (bit like a compression tester), if there's a leak somewhere it'll be noticed by either the air escaping from somewhere and/or from the gauges on the air compressor.

A-series engines (yours would be a 7AFE as you have the RV) are known to burn through a bit of oil as they get on in age, usually from rings or valve-stem seals getting old. You may see a bit of smoke at start-up, but apart from that it's a slow constant consumption that really adds up over time. Might be worthwhile stepping up to a thicker grade oil, as the recommended 15W40 is a bit thin for a 13 year old car, try 20W50 or 25W50.

 

As an aside, it's just a pedantic little thing but you've got an AE102, not an AE101 if you've got an RV with a 7A, the AE101 was the 1.6L base model and all models with the 1.8 were AE102. Doesn't mean much in the long run (apart from people maybe thinking that you have a JDM 101 Levin or Trueno), but it can help with parts interpreting (as the 101 had drum brakes at the rear etc etc)
