Rolliac Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Hay guy's Slant 4K side draft's in a KE1X? The closest I seen look to be 4 moterbike carbs. Which might be cool if you can get them big enough. obviously length is the limiting factor. A striaght inlet track is so appealing Quote
Redwarf Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Yes you can fit Webers/ Dellortos/ Paper Weights (oh, sorry, Solexs... :)) onto a K in a ten. The issue comes with adequate air filters. I haven't seen a good solution to this yet. My theory is if motor bike carbs were that good, everybody would be using them. If you can get around the filter issue, Webers are the item each and every time. Quote
Felix Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 SU's are your best bet. You can run decent filters with them. Quote
Redwarf Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 (Slaps head with hand) Yep, Doug's right (as usual). A well sorted pair of SU's go really well. I had a set before the Weber's started breeding under my house. They're a better prospect overall (size, fit, filters) than Webers. Quote
philbey Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I'm pulling my engine down this weekend due to an unexpected kerrrrrraCK in the head. Before I swap a new donk in, I'm going to bolt up my Dellortoes and take some measurements. I'll get some photos etc and post them up. I am thinking of lasercutting an airbox and running a pod off the front or even a panel across the top. Although it won't look great, it beats having socks squished up against the strut tower. Quote
Felix Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) If the airbox isn't deep enough you will experience carburettor shrouding. The rule of thumb is the depth/height should be at a minimum the bore size of the carb. ie. if you run 40mm carbs you should have 40mm or more to the lid of your box/filter. If it is less than this you are throwing away carb efficiency and power. Edited May 21, 2008 by Felix Quote
philbey Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Yeh I know thats my biggest worry. I wanted to run 16mm trumpets (better than nothing), but I reckon I'm going to be out of luck. Once I measure it up, I will model some stuff up in CAD and use a CFD program to design the airbox flow. The dellorto guys recommend about 36mm+ between trumpets and other stuff, but there may be ways around it. I'll see what I can come up with. I was even considering a "half airbox" with a panel filter top/LHS etc. After looking at what's out there the other day, I've got heaps of options for filtering/socks/pods etc. Edited May 21, 2008 by philbey Quote
Rolliac Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Yeah twin SU's might be the go. Webers would be cool though. Though I suppose performance is the important thing. I used to work at a turbo/ performance joint that loved their Zenith carbs. Edited May 21, 2008 by Rolliac Quote

kickn5k Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 You will still get into a little clearance issues with Su`s if you fit trumpets and socks , but all you do is push the sock so it goes behind the strut tower. If you decide to use a like a round Ramflo or square/rectangular caged foam filters you should have plenty of clearance. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...c=9733&st=0 There might be a photo in here to show clearance from the trumpets. stu.
