TidyBoi Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Hey guys, just a quick question, I have a 1992 corolla sedan, now I wanna get an exhaust system for that nice sound. Seeing as it's a 1.6 litre, my dad was saying that just getting a muffler won't give it a good sound, I'll need extractors etc. Can anyone gimme a list of exactly what I'll need for the sound I'm after, I want a grunty sound, but no drone in the cabin. Thanks. Quote
Johno Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 I just got a 2" exhaust system on my AE82 (1986). It's a 1.6L Sohc. 4ac I don't have extractors, I got 2" right through, a high flow cat, Resonator, Turbo mufferer and twin chrome tip. Sounds good, heaps more power but it does drown a bit when you drive on the freeway. Quote
TidyBoi Posted July 6, 2008 Author Report Posted July 6, 2008 Does it sound pissy like those wannabe racer cars or does it have a bit of grunt? How much did the 2" all the way through set you back? Quote
Johno Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 (edited) It's a stock 4Ac with no extractors, Just a big exhaust. I havent heard it from outside the car but i think is sounds alright. When I use the gears to slow down it has a sort of gargle sound which sounds cool. If i had a big cam it would sound better. **EDIT** Oh yeah, $550 all up. Heres a pic, just got it about 4 days ago Edited July 6, 2008 by Johno Quote
tas_ae71 Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Does it sound pissy like those wannabe racer cars or does it have a bit of grunt? if you don't want that then steer away from a fart can yeah 2" from the manifold back will provide a perfomance gain, ask for a "sports" muffler. should give a nice note for a daily without being too loud. typically you will get a drone if you have straight pipe or a cannon/fart can (one that you see on excels that looks like a milo tin). i have 2" with a resonator and muffler around the middle then 2.25" straight pipe the rest of the way which makes it quite loud, prob quite a bit more than is legal.
