When the car is first turned on and you make a sharp turn there is a squeaking noise. But after that first turn there is no more squeaking. It sometimes happens if the car hasnt been used for several hours.

Any ideas what it is?

My car is a 1997 Corolla.

Cheers

If it was the power steering belt wouldnt it squeak on every turn? Mine just makes a squeak on the very first turn after you turn the car on in the morning.

Also there seems to be a squeaking noise when I brake. I think its coming from the left had rear tyre. It makes like a errrrrrr noise. I don't think its the brake pads because they were replaced last month.

There are varying differences in looseness :) all brand new corollas have a problem of a squeaking belt on 1st startup and once the belt temperature has been raised the belt grips the pulleys better but once again they need tightening just a little to stop this.

This applies to any slipping belt. Good with tools and know how to tension a belt ? its dead easy.

Oh and your rear brakes can still make noises even with new pads. Could be that the disc rotor surface needs to machined and the pads havent been "bed in" correctly and also that light braking causes pads to glaze up like the glazed finish on potery, causes a nice lil noise.
