  1. Hi, Both headlights on the old lady's 1997 Corolla wont turn on. The low and high beams are fine but the normal headlight wont turn on. Ive checked the fuses (under thr hood and under steering wheel) but I couldnt find one which relates directly to the headlights - I might be blind though. Something else which is odd is that the high beam light on the cluster comes on when turning on the headlights (despite not turning on the full beam). Tail lights are fine. Any ideas? Cheers.
  2. Hi, We have a 1997 Conquest. Occasionally when locking the doors with the remote, it beeps twice and does not lock. You then have to close the doors with the key. Upon locking it beeps again. When unlocking the car it can't be done with the remote, it must be done with the key. Following this issue, it causes another problem - you can turn the key in the ignition, not even to accessory. The steering wheel is not locked. You have to play with the key numerous times going back and forth until it finally opens up. As mentioned it happens only occasionally probably once a fornight. As the old lady drives the car I would like to get it fixed but have not idea where to start. Any ideas? Thanks!
  3. Hi, Got a 1997 AE102 Corolla and bought a new remote. We have a working remote but I can't seem to remember how to program it. I remember plugging it into the little box in the top right corner of the glovebox but not sure what to do next. Any ideas? Thanks.
  4. Yeah it leaks all the time. Would you happen to know what this hose is and what it connects too? It will just make it easier when i go to buy a new one from bursons.
  5. Hey, I have a 1997 conquest. I changed the upper and lower radiator hoses a few months due to leaks back but there seems to be a new leak. I believe that it is coming from the small hose which sits near the power steering fluid. I am not sure what this hose is called. It is about 5cm long. Is there another hose which is close to the one that I described above that is tucked away from visibility when looking into the engine bay which could also be the culprit? Cheers
  6. Cheers guys. I'm going to be changing the hoses too so I was going to change the thermostat while i was at it. Only problem is that Ive called around a number of Toyota's but none seem to have any in stock and wont get them in til after easter. My mum needs the car for work. Only option is to get one from Burson. Anyone had an experience with Burson's parts? Also, I'm not at home at the moment to check, but I had a quick look before coming to work at the thermostat but couldnt find the bleeding valve. Is it located under the distributor or somewhere else?
  7. Hey, Wanting to do a coolant flush for our 1997 Conquest. What coolant is required and what is the water/coolant mixture? 5 lire coolant to 10 litre water? I have some Nulon Long Life Concentrated Coolant. Is this suitable? Cheers
  8. Thanks guys!
  9. It's a 102 Here's a picture.... What needs to be replaced? Is it just the bulb? Can they be bought from Supercheap etc? Never seen those bulbs before. Cheers
  10. Got a 1997 Corolla and the courtesy light stopped working. Popped off the cover and this was the first time ive seen this kind of bulb. The bulb seems to be riveted on a aluminum rod and onto the plastic housing. I wouldn't have a clue how to remove it. Didnt want to have a crack at getting it off at the fear of buggering up the aluminum rod because obviously its needed to change between door, off and on. Anyones help is appreciated. Cheers
  11. I'm starting to think more and more its the drivers door actuator. I opened with the key then pushed the unlock button and all the locks pop up then go back down except for the drivers lock which stays down. Tried turning the car on but it doesnt start as the immobiliser light is still flashng. How do you switch off the immobiliser from the engine bay? The errr noise is coming from the doors. Checked the fuse box near the battery but there didnt seem to be any fuses which relate to central locking.
  12. Not the battery. I tested with a multimeter and its reading fine. The reason why I believe it may be the actuator is that when you push the button on the remote it makes like a 'errr' noise. The indicator lights don't flash. The remote is only a few month old so I don't believe the battery in the remote is dead. Ive got two remotes and tried with both but neither seem to be working.
  13. My 1997 Corolla Conquest wont open with the remote and as a result the immobiliser wont turn off which is causing the car not to start. I'm thinking that one of the door actuator is dead which is causing the doors not to open with the remote. Battery is fine. Do you think that a door actuator is causing the problem? If so, how do I determine which actuator is at fault?
  14. we seem to be having problems pushing the brake piston in. Is there an easy way to push it back in? we have been using a clamp to push it back in but it isn't moving back in at all.
  15. Thanks for the tips fellas. Just one more question. When I take the tyre off there is this cap (as seen below) in the middle of the disc for the rears. Do you remove this first before taking the disc off? Or do I just slide the disc off without touching this cap thing? Is it the same for the front brakes? The fronts don't have this cap, its sort of like a bolt with a pin. Is it the same process as the rears?
  16. Cheers. Do you recommend putting some sort of compound on the hub when putting the new disc?
  17. Sorry Hiro, I think i didnt explain myself properly. I am changing both pads and disc's. I know how to change the pads but I can't get the disc off the hub. Any hints?
  18. Ive managed to remove the calipers. However I can seem to remove the hub/cap in the disc's. Is there a tool that removes it? Or can I screw bolts into the two threaded holes not taken up by the wheel nut threads and then the disc will push off the hub?
  19. I'm changing the pads on my 97 corolla conquest. This is for the rear wheels: I have removed 3 bolts, 2 that hold the caliper braket and one at the bottom of the caliper. Still the caplier isnt coming off. There doesnt seem to be any other bolts that i can remove. There is nothing at the top of the caliper. there seems to be a round thing where a bolt would normally sit but there is no way to remove it. However the front calipers have bolts holding the top and the bottom in. What bolt am I missing for the rears?
  20. I'm changing the discs, pads and brake fluid on my 1997 Corolla 1.8 Conquest. I bought the Castrol dot4 fluid but when I took off the brake fluid cap it says to use dot 3 only. The Castrol dot4 fluid says it can be used in dot3 and dot4 specified products. But also says except where dot3 is specified. Is it safe to use the Castrol dot4 fluid or should i buy a dedicated dot3 fluid? Cheers
  21. Do I just screw the valve clockwise to tighten them? The car slants opposite to where the front tyre, so there is no pressure when parked on tha tyre. Will do that on Saturday. But I thought id ask here first as I found it odd that both the original tyre and the spare got flat.
  22. On Sunday I noticed that the front right tyre (when sitting in drivers seat) was flat. The four tyres plus the spare are only about 6 weeks old. So I pumped up all the tyres to 30psi. On Sunday evening the front right tyre got flat again so I put the spare on thinking the tyre had a puncture. Tonight I checked the tyre again the the front tyre was at about 11psi and the others dropped to 27psi. What could be the problem? I was thinking the rim might have a crack, but the spare is on at the moment, so I doubt both the spare and the initial rims would have cracks. Any ideas? The car is a 1997 Conquest if that helps.
  23. My 1997 Conquest didnt come with an owners manual, so I am not sure where the jack points are. Where exactly can I jack the car up from the front in order to do an oil service. Can some please scan a photo from the manual? Also where is it safe to place the jack stands? Cheers
  24. I drive a 1997 Corolla with 161,000 on the clock. The car didnt come with the owners book so I am not sure which type of oil grade to use. My mechanic uses Penrite and the car is currently running on Penrite and it drives overrated so I want to stick with Penrite. Penrite HPR10 is 10w-50 - is this too thin for a 11 year old car? Or should I go for HPR15 which is 15w-60? Also what is the oil capacity for a 1997 Corolla Conquest 1.8L? Cheers
  25. Is this a bad thing? Will it cause any damage? Thanks guys
