Your alternator has a diode or two out I'd say. consdidering last time I looked at it the unit was charging, but there was no charge light coming on with ignition.

is it reparible or do i need a new alternator

Yeah, Depends how much a new diode/rectifier plate is, If that is indeed what it is. really need to split it apart and test everything before you can draw a real conclusion..

Are the brushes on the alternator worn?

This may be a little to technical but you need to excite the alternator with a test light , checking the output Battery voltage with a Multimeter at the same time.

The charge light is not even coming on so its something a little more than brushes..

dang there not to dear to buy one from a wrecker i got one for mine for 40 bucks

and they are pretty easy to get in and out anyway

I already tested it on the vehicle, It needs to come out to be fixed...

buy a new one/2nd hand one from the wreckers.

its 2 bolts.
