666westy999 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 ive got an 83 ke70 wagon... the rear of the wagon seems to "float" left to right a little wen you hit bumps/undulation/turn... wen i bought her i replaced EVERY bush in the front, new shocks, tie-rods, and wheel bearings so front is beautiful and feels super tight and smooth. however due to the previous owner being a steady driver the drive-line isnt too flogged so i've left it and just replaced rear shocks... as I'm sure ur all aware, the ke-sev wags has only a leaf-pack and shocks holding the diff assembly inplace. my concern/thought was how 'solid' is the mounting system as far as lateral movement is concerned? it doesnt help that i have a 70 profile tyre which, yes, i know is a balloon, but this movement factor is all thats holding me back from wanting to mod her any further. cos its the first ke i've had i don't know how its "supposed to feel"... i could replace bushes and re-taper the leaf-pack etc. but will this stiffen up the movement? or does the ke-wagon require a swaybar and/or panhard to be fabricated into place??? ANY help/guidance would be appreciated. cheers westy Quote
styler Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 (edited) hey seems like you are onto it already, i would change rear leaf bushes first (easy and not expensive) then get a rear wheel alignment check to see if the diff is bent, check wheel bearings and axles, then check/change shocks (which you have already done) then change tyres, then fabricate a panhard rod setup or watts link if you feel like it. thats the order id do it in but someone else may have another idea of why it floats? bald or cheap hard tyres could also be possible? the u_bolts holding diff to leafs may be loose or not attached properly? orangeLJ Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 jack the bum up, grab the wheel on either side and see if you can move it around, easy way to check for excess thrust in the bearings. Quote
