Johno Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Hi all, I've been fixing up my Ae82 corolla and I'm dropping in a 4age in. I am thinking about doing a cold air intake setup and was just wanting to know what setups people have done with their corolla's. There is three ways i am thinking of going with this 1. Small scoop on left hand corner of bonnet 2. Same small scoop but instead on the side of left hand fender panel 3. Pod filter underneath headlight as in drill a large hole under where the fuse box is and have the pod through there. Any other idea's? Quote
trav_555 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 on my e7 i cut a hole in next to radiator and made a custom pod box and stuck it between rad and batt, makes a mad sound now thats on a 4k ke70 though Quote
Jason Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) ^^ :hmm: You might be surprised when mounting small bonnet scopes (Near the front) that you might have a negative pressure. So be careful :P The best place imo would be right before the wind screen, you will get a positive pressure there. Aerodynamics is really surprising and alot of your intuitive thoughts are wrong (atleast mine were  ). Best thing if you want to find the ideal place and a play around with a manometer (or similar thingy) testing different spots on the car. Edited December 4, 2008 by Jason Quote
toycsi Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 hi johno, i have a 94 csi and i fitted a cold air set up just recently. i brought from auto barn the ribbed plastic stretchy hose, two size coupler, uni filter. i removed blk plastic box fitted under lhs splash guard/mudguard,ran pipe from t/b to hole already cut from factory and fitted uni filter under there. grabs heaps of cold air there. much better than having pod in hot engine bay cheers glen Quote

I was just reading all about ram air and i understand what your talking about with negative atmospheric pressure. I just want colder air rather than the hot stale air from the engine. I'm not really a fan with bonnet scoops so i might scrap that idea, especially now i know about negative pressure. Under the wheel arch wont be a good idea unless i have a sealed box under there otherwise it will get covered with mud and hit by stones. The scoop on the side will also have negative pressure, probably more than the bonnet. Quote
Jason Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) I'm not saying it will but it might, you really have to test it your self if your going to get serious about it  When i did some tests on the volvo highest places were the front grill area and just above the air dam. So what would look like below the bumper indicators on yours. J. Also what irokin said NACA duct would be sweet. Edited December 4, 2008 by Jason Quote
