toycsi Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 hi guys how are ya. i was just wandering if any one could please help advise me if a ae82 -86 model 4age model hatch corolla front sway bar will fit my ae92 1994 model car ?? iv found one at the wreckers and my car does not have a front sway bar at all, allthough iv fitted a white line strut brace recently to it. any ideas guys please?? thanks cheers glen Quote
Redwarf Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Well, 30 seconds worth of tooling around on the whiteline website says no. Bite the bullet, spend some money, buy a new one, and get a plan of what you want the car to do. In all honesty, adding the strut brace at this time is about as useful as a scuba tank made from cheese. Quote
toycsi Posted December 14, 2008 Author Report Posted December 14, 2008 hi redwarf, thanks for the reply. so you don't know the answer to my question then?? i do bite the bullet and spend money and have been spending money in the past 6 weeks on the car. white line says there is no sway bar for ae92 as they never came with a sway bar on them from factory so i thought i may be able to adapt a second hand sway bar of some thing else you see!! a don't see why a strut brace wouldnt work,it still braces the front end some way or another. thanks glen Quote
Redwarf Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 So the BTF75Z won't fit an AE92? Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) white line says there is no sway bar for ae92 as they never came with a sway bar on them from factory so i thought i may be able to adapt a second hand sway bar of some thing else you see!! wrong, only base models in the ae9X never came with the front swaybar, strut bace <you>will</you> help in the long run as long as its the 3 point factory item from the sx/gti (had a 2 point, the towers still flexed). Oh and the ae82 is a completely different shape and has different mounting points. now there was a kit from whiteline at one stage so you could fit a sway bar to base models, its had a different part number to the one redwarf qouted, it seems that whitle may have stopped producing the kit if you must have a front sway bar you need the following out of an SX/GTI(they have all the mounting bracket etc) lower control arms, brackets, sway bar and links, and i would think about changing the bushes while you at it. MYSTIK[RL] Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 the whiteline strut brace is considered a 2 point, because it goes from strut tower to strut tower. the 3 point goes from strut tower to the firewall to the strust tower. 2 point strut brace 3 point strut brace Quote

Redwarf Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 (edited) The bottom one would actually be more structurally sound than the top one. There's one major weak point on the top one...... Edited December 17, 2008 by Redwarf Got the two photo's mixed up. Quote

Redwarf Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Whoops wrong way around. The strut top mount point on the whitelines are weak. Quote
Bowler Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 bout to say - you'd hope toyota would've had it right the first time...plus, she's a fairly sturdy fit once installed... Quote

There's one major weak point on the top one...... exactly right, i had a 2 point in my cs hatch and while it helped a little bit, it still had some flex in the strut towers, it wasnt the towers moving horizontally towards one another they were moving vertically up and down. the 3 point brace from the factory is way better than the 2 point aftermarket one. :) Edited December 17, 2008 by MYSTIK Quote
