hi again guys,

i brought kindly from sam member here a disk brake rear end and front disk brake end and front sway bar of a twin cam 4a-ge sx model hatch.

 

i have a ae-92 sedan that has drum brakes on rear and soon will swap over to the disk brake rear end.

 

here is my questions,

where is best place to jack front and rear of car so i can swap brake calipers/rotors over and put front sway bar on ??

 

any tips on how to go about removing what first ??

 

also do sx model twin cam rollas have larger front calipers than your standard ae-92 vechile ??, they sure look stronger/larger and have better gripping power.

 

theses front brakes i got have vented rotors also iv noticed which is as plus !!

 

the disk brake rear end should be a improvement over drums brake shouldnt it as far as braking is concerned ??

Firstly, the jack points are in the middle of the front and rear sub members, but remember to never get under a car unless supported by jack stands.

give this a read through too, http://www.twincam.info/index.php?showtopic=1063 - that'll give you the basic run down on whats what and how to. Also, for the sway bar, do you have the links/front control arms, and the chassis mounts? these are a must.

thanks for the reply mate , r.e the sway bar,yep iv got the links and front control arms and chasis mounts all of the same donor car.

so hopefully will be ok.

yep will do mate and i will put stands under there first.

so r.e these sx calipers,are they better ?? r.e compared to the ae-92 stock ones ??

Series 1 or 2? often a good set of pads will make a good difference for the most part (aka, general day to day duties). but if your destined for the mountains or the track, then yes, they do make an awful difference. Johno has S1 calipers on his car, and he's extremely happy with the performance over his old ones - he has stock rear end setup. I'm running S2 (larger rotors) but am finding that the bias is a little front heavy (a common criticism). Mind you, she stops very nicely in the process, and i'm just being picky...

yeah they are series 1 calipers/disks unfotunetly,i just measured them.

so whats the difference in the calipers between stock ae-92 and series 1 & 2 calipers ??

bigger,better griping power ??

and the disks would be larger diam as well yeah ??

S1 rotors are smaller in diameter, but vented - thus they can dissipate the heat build up much more efficiently than the standard solid rotors (there's only 4 mm difference). the S1 calipers are 18 mm thick too, compared to (off memory) 13mm. The S2 rotors are 258x22mm, so 20mm larger in diameter, and 4mm thicker. Grip is determined by your tyres, but yes, as the brakes suffer from heat effects less, you get a better stopping consistency over the standard solid rotors, and also lessen the chance of glazing the pads, as the heat build-up is much less... and to a lesser extent, because of the heat dissipation, you can modulate the brakes much easier - although doing up in diameter as well, makes for a more noticeable difference when it comes to modulation

bolwer you forgot the s2 fronts are also vented as well :y: other than that you hit the nail on the heard

Errrr....once again, correct me if I'm wrong, same size piston, covering the same swept area due to same pads being used between series 1 vented and series 2 vented. Slightly smaller (?) piston used on solid brakes... so the gripping power of the piston would be greater on the vented models as opposed to the solid one - however, the braking torque would be greater on the S2 calipers due to the piston/pad being located further out. the braking torque (for equivalent force applied) between the solid and the s1 vented, would swing the way of the solid rotor.

Vented rotor wont fit under the original calipers due to a) caliper is 18mm thick, opposed to 13mm think solid rotor - err, think square peg round hole. and b), if by some chance it miraculously did fit (and rotate), the pad would be positioned too far out - not the best for wear, and the like. Just fit the s1 calipers - there was a reason they were fitted to twinky's and s1 ge's - they wouldn't have done it if they weren't better than the base braking system...

ok then will do.

one last question,i also got the sx brake master cylinder resovoir kit ,should i fit that as well as it might have the better suited brake bias spring ???

to suit now going from drum brake rear end to disk brake rear end ,would that be rite ??
