The bolts that hold it to the flex plate were all knackered.

I just whacked a thin disc on a 9 inch grinder and knocked the heads off.

But, you'll take chunks of the ring gear out most likely.

Thanks, I ended out locating the bolts on the back side of the flex plate. Only trick was chocking the flex plate to allow the bolts to be undone.

Tomorrows adventure will be fitting the new gear box.

I found the easiest and quickest way to lock the flex plate/flywheel on assembly is to fit a G-Clamp directly onto the flywheel where it will butt up against the side of the block.

Sweet.

Pretty sure there is a hole to fit a socket behind the flex plate that allows you to undo the bolts. just turn flywheel around and undo them all... thats how i did it.

Yes, there is.

I found that one out after i had taken the flex plate off my motor

Managed to get it off. Just used a jack handle against the ground and teeth on the flex plate to lever against to undo the bolts. Didn't need much just something to hold it.

I got some good pics and will do a write up. There were a couple little tricks to getting the auto box out.

thanks for the advice guys.

The only hint and tip i could really say about getting the box out

is to make sure you have a couple of bags of kitty litter on hand cause no matter how much auto fluid you think and believe you've drained out of it the garage floor is sure to find more. I'd say about 2-3 litres extra in my case....

Especially when you drop the box out, and your watching the front, and all those 2-3 litres are pouring out the back! :jamie:

Oh and remember that the 2 speed toyoglide has 6 bolts, and the 3 speed trimatic has 3...

Almost, almost the father-in-law was watching the front, i was under the car watching it pour out crying "CRAP, ambers going to shoot me!" trying to lift the box back up to get something under it. While i'm hearing the dreaded words of "keep it coming almost there...."
